Today, I introduced myself, Pete, to my new coworkers at a shipyard. An hour into my shift, everyone started calling me "re-Pete" because I have a bit of a stutter. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Pleased to meet you, hope you forget my name
Today, it was my first day at a new workplace. During introductions, I nervously tripped over my words and introduced myself as "Fork." My real name is Frank. My coworkers thought it was too funny to correct. Looks like I’m stuck with "Fork" for the foreseeable future. FML
Teambuilding
Today, I was so nervous introducing myself to my new team, I actually mispronounced my own name, badly, and now that’s how everyone refers to me, but again, I’m too nervous to correct anyone. It’s been a week already, so correcting them now would be extra weird. FML
Today, at work, we've just hired a new load of people. As an icebreaker, we were paired up randomly and told to learn about our partner so that we can introduce them to the group. I got matched up with someone I've worked with for 4 months. Mid-conversation, I blurted out "I don't know your name." FML
Today, we had an impromptu meeting to get to know the new additions to the team. They asked me to introduce myself. I started a year ago. FML
Greg
Today, it was my first day. HR handed me a badge with my photo and… someone else’s name printed in big letters. I spent the whole morning being introduced as “Greg” to people who said, “Nice to meet you Greg.” By lunch I’d corrected maybe 3 people and reinforced everyone else’s assumption that my real name was Greg. FML
Unforgettable
Today, I got asked, “And you are…?” by a senior colleague while in a morning meeting at work. I’ve been working here for 3 months and I've already introduced myself multiple times to them. FML
Today, I saw a few old co-workers at the bar. They recognized me and started calling me by the nickname they had for me that I was unaware of. It appears I was known as "butch megan" by the entire office for 2 years. FML
Who am I?
Today, after being with the company for over 3 years, I realised nobody really knows my name. This was after my boss was walking around a new staff member and couldn't introduce me. Neither could my colleague, who's been sitting next to me for the last 6 months. FML
Today, I went on a trip with some people from work to watch a baseball game. Halfway through the game, one of my managers shook my hand and said "Nice to Meet You." I've been working there for 3 months. FML
Today, I had the Monday meeting that I have had every week for 8 months. We had new people joining today. One of my bosses went around the room introducing people, and he forgot my name. I've been sitting across from him with a nametag for 8 months. FML

Actually, if they bothered to give you a nickname, even if it’s insulting, you’re “in.” Be a good sport about it, and you’ll be fine. Or, just tell them to “F-f-f-**** off!!”

That there's harassment. Payback in the form of H.R. Can help

You probably don't make friends at work often do you?
lukesick1 12
Not if they are making fun of someone's disability.

I mean honestly how would you like to deal with something your whole life to have the place you go to most ridicule you for it?

How would I like it? I've been in the military for over 7 years with two deployments. I've heard my fair share of messed up yet funny nicknames. Unless it's truly degrading/ discriminating or really going to far people need to thicken their skin so to speak. Don't run to HR to solve all your problems.

I believe there's a South Park episode that can explain this for you. It's called "Here comes the Neighborhood".

Come on, you work at a shipyard and I bet it's 95% men. It's just a way men bond, giving each other stupid names..

I know a lot of people will say don't let it get to you, but this could be considered workplace harassment.

Well at least you don't have to fear falling out of a boat.
