Today, I had just sat down in the lobby of my doctor's office when my phone alerted me that I had a friend request. I checked; it was from some girl from high school. I muttered to myself, "I don't want to be your friend." I then heard a gasp. She was sitting across from me. FML

I probably should have made a few things clear first, this girl was a total bitch in high school and made fun of me daily. So you can imagine how surprised I was in that horribly awkward situation.

Can't blame you. No way you could have predicted that. But maybe you should check your phone less and look around you more.

Awkward, but better in the long run.

That's stupid. She could've said hi irl instead of stalking you on FB and not uttering a word. People have no social skills.

Then say "but I'll be friends with her/him" and save it

haha. you're a Dick

to be honest, she deserved it too for not taking to you first AND waiting till she saw you again to friend you.

You could have just lied and said it was someone else's friend request and not their's. It is possible you got two. But, really, them adding you after seeing you but not actually having spoken to you is probably a sign they are kind of crazy. Or they're friend collectors and don't care who they add as long as their friends' list makes them feel popular.

I feel ya on that one OP. a complete asshole to me in high school just tried adding me on Facebook too. I asked him why. He didn't reply. So I just declined and blocked him. **** people who made your life miserable in high school.
braidedsilver 8
Well I hope you told her why to her face. The real world can suck for people like that. She deserved it.
Pikawhore 21
What happened afterwards? Did you end up talking to her after she gasped?
doglover100 29
She either wants to patch things up or wants a thousand friends. I want to know what happened afterwards.

If she was mean to you, I understand why you don't want to be her friend, and you probably didn't notice her sitting across from you. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have clicked YDI (I often click before reading the comments--sorry). I had a similar situation some months ago--a woman I knew in private school over 30 years ago sent a friend request, and I deleted it because she was pretty cruel to me. Luckily I was in private when I saw and dispatched the request.

I know how that feels OP. Someone who treated me like shit in middle school (I'm in high school now) is constantly trying to add me on Facebook. No matter how many times I reject it she sends me another one.
WeskersSexslave 15
should've told her, "oh well."

Read the replies to #91.

There are some people out there that go through people's entire friends list to add people from school. I know one or two of them. If you weren't friends then, why would you want to be now?
Table_Flip 4
From personal experience, I see no problem with what you did. For one, you were just speaking your mind. I had a similar situation after I had finished my Bachelour's degree. There was this terrible woman who bullied me throughout junior high and high school who randomly added me to Facebook one day, and I ignored it. She later got hold of my home phone number and called me. Why? She wanted a reference to help get a job with the company I was working for. Yeah, don't think so... I don't understand why people are getting so pissed off. Nobody is required to accept Facebook invites, especially from people we don't like!
darkfireflame 15
Honest mistake, I mean who expects to have the same doctor with the high school bitch?
trell000 13
Agreed, after hearing why you said that I now regret voting YDI.
BrotherPhil 35
You SO should have given her that reference, directly to HR so that she didn't get to read it. "Jane Doe bullied me through high school, then asked me for a reference as I work for the company. I have no idea what she would be like as an employee".

They actually screwed.
Nessco 36
I agree with #176, I would have clicked otherwise if I'd known too. You shouldn't feel bad about it if she was like that. You should have just called it out instead.

Yes! Thank you! @200
fantasyworld 39
It seems to me that she wanted a whole bunch of Facebook friends.
ALN212111 7
YDI in the sense that if you don't want to be her friend why do you care if you offend her? You give out antisocial rudeness, you reap the consequences. Having a boyfriend who prides himself on brutal honesty, I have no pity for you.
emydoll 14
I'm not asking for pity, but thank you for your horribly rude and inaccurate statement :)
Mackay92 14
If that's the case that picture of the cat is hideous
nix1993 41
There is a huge difference between brutal honesty and unnecessary rudeness... Not wanting to be facebook friends with someone who treated you badly in high school is in no way rude, and not wanting to be facebook friends with anyone period is certainly not antisocial. Only in this day and age could somebody accuse you of being antisocial for rejecting an INTERNET 'friend request'! How painfully, idiotically ironic.
Pikawhore 21
#138, are you and your boyfriend the same person?
XTheDesertSongX 17
If we're going to be brutally honest, you're a ******* dumbass for taking something so clear cut as out-of-context as you did. I have no pity for you.
sjbartholome 14
Not sure how this has anything to do with "brutal honesty"
Lomus 24
OP didn't want to be her friend, so no, why care if she got offended by that? It's not offensive to not want to be someone's friend. This has absolutely nothing to do with honesty, especially considering OP was being honest.
blonde_girrl 6
You so mean!! That's so horrible

Well she's 12, I mean what do you expect.
nix1993 41
She's not even old enough to have Facebook.
friedgecko 9
Definitely not old enough to be on a site like FML. Excuse me small child, where are your parents?
sjwimmer2013 13
Isn't this a copy of your other FML? It's word for word except you called her a bitch in the previous one. I saw it in the modding section
JBChristian 47
No I think 4 was saying "The feeling". Acknowledging the awkward feeling OP had because of what happened.
