Today, I found out why my mother-in-law kept asking for one particular photo of our baby. She just wanted to show off the blanket that she had made to her friends on Facebook. Her first grandchild was almost completely cropped out of the picture. FML

I'm a midwife as well as a mother. I know the world doesn't revolve around me, and that people generally don't care about baby photos unless they know someone related to them or they are very well taken. I've met more new grandparents that I can count, her behaviour is just not typical of the average grandparent I meet. She is a lovely person, she is just not a baby person. No craft group and no other photos of the baby. She is not the worst Grandparent in the world and our baby is beautiful. I found the situation amusing and strange, which makes a perfect submission to FML, so I submitted it! Her reasoning behind it is she didn't want to look like she was showing off her work. The comment section of her Facebook was very amusing to read, almost as amusing as this one, so thanks for the laughs.

Get a picture of them together, completely crop her out and post it on Facebook.

She's proud about the blanket - let her be. It sounds like she worked hard on it and wants to show what she did. You have to remember that the world doesn't revolve around you and your baby - everyone else has their own life and interests. I'm sure she probably has other pictures of your baby (posted on fb or not) so I just don't see the big deal here.

I'm more concerned that you're being super selfish/childish about your kid not showing up on Facebook. What's so important about showing up huh? And she's old so not fml worthy.

Alternatively, she could just be aware of the danger of posting pics of your children on Facebook...

All babies look the same.

I don't get why she had to crop the baby out. She could've just shown both and bragged about them both. Sorry OP, maybe next time;)

When the kid grows up, he'll probably be grateful he had at least one relative who wasn't plastering pictures of him online since birth.

Even though that was kind of crappy, don't take it to heart. She probably wanted to show off a blanket she probably worked really hard on to make. :)

How rude she needs to get over her self

On the plus side, your MIL knows how to crop a photo.

It might have made more sense to people if she had said 'Here is the blanket I made for Beep', to show what people were supposed to look at. Instead she said 'Here is Beep, my first Grandchild'. People were left confused because they couldn't really see Beep. She cannot take a decent photo herself, which is why she wanted the professional photograph. If only she had asked for a nice photo of the blanket, I would have been happy to take one for her. My FIL doesn't have Facebook, so it was the main way for many of the extended friends and family were hoping to see the baby. As strange as it may seem, some people do like to see baby photos. It would have made more sense to post the whole photo with with the caption 'Here is Beep with the blanket I made for her'. As I said before, she didn't want to post just a photo of the blanket because she though that was 'showing off' some how. It doesn't make sense to me because having made many blankets and toys I understand what it's like to be proud of something you have worked hard on. Highlights of the Facebook comments. 'Why is the photo at such an odd angle?' 'Do you have any where we can see her face?' 'She looks a bit like her cousin did but it's hard to tell from the photo, do you have any other pictures' 'Why are you hiding her face?' In the end I think one person mentioned the blanket. I felt really bad once we realised what she wanted. She had every reason to be very proud of the blanket.

Sorry, meant to put this as a reply to another comment. BTW we didn't call our baby Beep, she does have a normal name.

Damn, I was liking beep as a name! I sort of understand her logic, as odd as it was!
