Today, after months of being pestered to do so, I finally read the first Harry Potter book. I hated it. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend posted the fact on Facebook, where I immediately received tons of abuse and eventual shunning by my friends, family, and coworkers. My girlfriend just laughed. FML

Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I have never read any of the Harry Potter books. FML
Today, my boyfriend finally convinced me to watch Harry Potter for the first time. I was bored out of my mind the entire time, and by about an hour in, all I could think about was how badly I wanted to punch Hermione for being a rude little know it all. FML
Today, my daughter turned 11. Since she LOVES Harry Potter, I decided to write her an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. When she saw the letter, she screamed and showed me. When she found out I wrote it, she told me she hated me, started crying, and stepped on my foot. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I had the worst fight of our relationship, and I’m not sure we’re going to make it. Why? Because out of all his hobbies and interests that I’ve happily joined in on, I said I had no interest in Harry Potter. FML
Today, my "friend" told me I was weird and irritating. Yet she has an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter, hates people in general, and has a Facebook for her cat. Yeah, I'm the weird one. FML
Today, my brother-in-law brought his new girlfriend over to meet the family. Things went south real quick after she went on a tirade about what terrible parents my wife and I are for letting our kids keep all their Harry Potter memorabilia. Now he’s mad I threw her out. FML
Today, I saw my first FML I published on Facebook. Everyone was bashing me, thinking that I was the problem and the cause for my ex-boyfriend wanting to do his own thing. I used to sit in his room being ignored for days straight while he gamed. Not once did I bitch about his gaming. FML
Today, my daughter wouldn't stop yapping on about not being able to register on the new Harry Potter website. The amount of whiny jibber-jabber emanating from her cake-hole made me want to boot her from our family tree, and I had to resort to booze to wash the pain away. I'm a terrible parent. FML
Today, I found out there's a Harry Potter club at my school. My boyfriend is in it. FML
Today, It's been a few months since I started reading the Harry Potter books to my daughter. She told me a list of all her favorite characters. I didn't have the heart to tell her that every single one of them dies by the end of the seventh book. FML

People got mad at me when I said I didn't like the Lord of the Rings movies or books because of the lack of character development. Sorry you had to deal with something similar.

I think Tolkien helped to make Fantasy a serious genre, so he definitely had an important place in literature. I just don't find any of the books he wrote to be of any interest. The only book I found enjoyable was the Hobbit, because even though it still lacked character development, at least it had a lot of fun moments to make up for it.

I read the first Harry Potter book. Bored me to death even as an 11 year old and I LOVE to read. Just not my taste. The movies were bad in my opinion too. I hate snobs who think their taste in music/film/literature is superior and anyone who disagrees should get the 3rd degree. Take that elitism somewhere else. Don't worry OP. those people have no lives whatsoever.

Eh. Some people are just really really crazy about Harry Potter. It's not your fault and they shouldn't have verbally abused you just because you didn't like something but for future reference, maybe you should keep these kinds of facts to yourself? Like I said, some people take their fandom wayy too seriously. You should have seen how this one chick screamed at me when I said I wasn't a big fan of Doctor Who.
