Today, a friend pointed out to me that my girlfriend of five years looks a bit like my mom. She does, and now I can't get it out of my head. FML

Today, I took my girlfriend to meet my family for the first time. Everyone quickly pointed out how my girlfriend looks very much like my cousin. My girlfriend even agrees. That’s not what I was going off of when I first met her but now I’m having a hard time un-seeing it. FML
Today, my dad found the ugliest picture my mom has ever taken. I show it to her laughing. She said it looks like me. I looked again and it kind of does. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. His mom stared at me throughout dinner before finally blurting out, "I'm sorry, I can't get past the fact that you look just like his ex!" It turns out I do. FML
Today, I asked my girlfriend what she loves the most about me. She said it's the fact that I look like her cousin. FML
Today, I realized why my 50 year old Dad's 30 something girlfriend looked so familiar. She is in all my parents wedding photos... as the flower girl. FML
Today, I found out my husband only started to date me because he thinks I look like his daughter. She was 5 at that time. FML
Today, my date told me I have a smile that "reminds him of his grandma." Then he showed me a picture. I look exactly like her. FML
Today, my mother met my boyfriend. She thought it would be appropriate to tell him that he looks just like my ex-husband. FML
Today, I asked my girlfriend what she thought of a certain plus-sized vocalist, to which she replied, "She's gorgeous!" I said, "That's great because you remind me a lot of her." Now she's not talking to me. FML
Today, I was looking at my friend's dad's Facebook pictures because he recently posted a status update. I saw him at a bar with some ugly hooker that he was feeling up in almost every picture. After about 10 minutes of ridiculing and laughing at this ugly woman, I realize it's my mom in a wig. FML

You know what, Oedipus was a happy man. Well, until the part where he blinded himself. But seriously, it's pretty common to marry someone like your opposite-sex parent. Unless it truly makes you uncomfortable, I wouldn't worry.

There is a lot of people who date someone that has similar traits or characteristics of their parents subconsciously. As long as you love each other, that's all that matters.

Well it took the friend 5 years to point that out. I doubt OP or anyone for that matter would want to come across a similarity like that. Well there is a select few, but there's a dark place on FML for them

99.9% of women turn into their moms. So I suggest you look at your girlfriends mom and imagine what life would be like living with someone who looks like that in another 25 years. Though if I had believed that 25 years ago I doubt I would have got married. Now she looks very similar to what her own mom did. Thank goodness she doesn't have same personality as her own mom did. I am just replacing one creepy image with another arn't I? I hope your dad isn't a fat, bald, drunk because your girl might be having some uncomfortable thoughts of her own.

It's actually very common to look for similarities to your parents in your partner. Especially if you have a good relationship with your mother, it's neither surprising nor wrong to have a girlfriend who might be alike to her. And if you've been together for 5 years everything else seems to be alright, so don't worry about it.
