Today, a customer at the store I work at asked me what kind of cake I would suggest for her husband's 50th birthday. I laughed and showed her the Grim Reaper cake. She burst into tears and explained that he has cancer. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Disappointed
Today, at work, a customer cried because the cake I made her was not "exactly" the same as the display. I'm the one who made the display and it was the same but the display cake had faded a bit, since it had been there for a month. I'd mentioned this to the customer when she placed the order. FML
Today, a customer that I've been waiting on for years came into the restaurant after a long absence. I said to him, "Hey man, it looks like you lost a lot of weight! How'd you do it?" He replied, "I got cancer." FML
Today, after telling my mother-in-law about my recent miscarriage, she cheerfully made a cake to celebrate. FML
Today, I was at work. I work at a grocery store and a woman pulls a cart to me filled with chips, breads, lunch meats, and sodas. I said to her "Looks like you are going to have a fun party" she then looks at me and says "My mother just died, this is for after the funeral. FML
Today, I ordered a graduation cake from a woman at the grocery store. She asked me what I wanted the cake to say and I said "Congratulations Annie". Then she asked me who was ordering and I said "Annie". I had to order my own cake. The woman was silent. FML
Today, I was ringing up a woman at work. I saw she'd bought a birthday cake, so I smiled and said I hoped whoever it was for has a happy birthday. She looked at me in disgust, told me to mind my own business, then called me a "chucklefuck bitch." Okay then. FML
Today, I went into work and noticed one of my fellow colleagues had a large bunch of flowers on her desk. As soon as I saw her, I immediately said, "Happy Birthday!" Everyone went quiet. It wasn't her birthday; her father had died. FML
Today, a coworker left a chocolate cake on the "free food" table in the office. I had a slice. She's just called to ask if she left her grandmother's birthday cake at work. She made it from scratch. Now I'm baking a new cake in the office kitchen. FML
You're back!
Today, I heard that one of our customers had passed away. Saddened, I told everyone who came into our shop about his death. Understandably, some customers got very upset and one even fainted. Suddenly, the "dead" man walked into the shop. Turns out I got the name wrong. FML
Today, at work, I served a customer who looked so much like my grandma that I thought it actually was her. Then I remembered she died 6 months ago. I had to serve customers with a smile on my face while choking back tears for the rest of the day. FML

An Over The Hill cake would have been fine, but your store had to one up that with a Grim Reaper? Man, that sucks! At least you were doing your job well!

Not in "any" other situation. OP should've realised there was the potential for this situation. A grim reaper cake is funny for a 30th birthday. Around 50 it could feel a little too close to the truth even for a healthy man.

Good joke, i agree. But... Don't joke about death... Publicly..

73: I'm a tumor. :) I just learn how to repress it.

OP did absolutely nothing wrong. Someone asked for advice and she provided. Also, the store she works at had the cake already made so that she could show/sell it to customers.

yer true, but fifty should be the max limit

"Lyk omgee! you are lyk soo inconsiderable OP! you are lyk the worstest person on the hole planet! your a giant doo-doo head! lyk seriously!" Thats what I hear every time I read a post saying something about how "inconsiderate" and how "mean" the OP was, it's not like he gave the man cancer! To everybody who is crying out for this person to lose their job: shut your mouths! The OP could lose their job if they DIDN'T do things like this, if they were cold and unwilling to have suggestions they would never have the job in the first place. It's all the people who are butt-hurt over this that are making the world ridiculous, "nobody had better do or say anything that I disapprove of for any reason or im going to sue them!" that seems to be your war-cry.

Hey, I might speak for myself but it's my constitutional right to sound like a moron. Just as it is yours to spend 5 minuets venting on a dam website made for humor.

or not inconsiderate at all. People celebrate their 50th birthday as the 'black' birthday because they're on their way and such. It's supposed to be fun. So what. he has cancer. He would still die without it

You guys need to chill the hell out. I would have laughed at that if the cake was for my sickly 80 year old grandmother. She would have laughed at it if she was with me. Learn to take a joke.

You're a sick bastard.

Why #20 because OP didn't know he has cancer?
sulitak 27
yeah, for my Dad's 40th we had a Grim Reaper cake, and had our tallest relative dressed as a grim reaper... Standard practice for 40th,50th and 60th birthdays are "over the hill" meaning on your way to death

How was she to know that her husband had cancer? You don't do you??

Why would you even make a joke like that in the first place?
gusgus36 5
lots of people have at least "over the hill" theme parties for turning 40 or 50, as a joke. my uncle did. the grim reaper is a bit worse, but it's along the same lines... kinda
docscientist 10
it's sort of a cultural thing to rag someone on going over the hill when the turn 50. it's perfectly acceptable, OP isn't a mind reader.
SoDorable 0
cuz 50 is a joke bday. havent u heard of over the hill? why dont you think before you comment.
I_lost_the_game 25
197- So what if they haven't heard of over the hill? They were just asking, it was unnecessary of you to say "why don't you think before commenting". I think YOU should think before commenting.

Well, I thought it was funny - just bad timing on your part.
