This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff
United States
The thrill of it
Today, my daughter called me to pick her up at the mall. She said I had to meet her inside a specific store, so I figured she wanted me to pay for something. Turns out I was right; she was being arrested for shoplifting. FML

I know what she's getting for Christmas. Yup. COAL.

Hey Tiger fan, I bet that freezing surgery guy would have loved to be given that same coal! (:

In today's world a lump of coal could be very nice. Free heat!! Free fuel!!

I was thinking more along the lines of a court date.

I guess you were too late to pay for it for her, OP.

Jane's Addiction-"Been Caught Stealing" comes to mind. ***These are the times for tough love. Hopefully she'll learn her lesson and not think mommy is always there to bail her out of bad behaviour!

I'd leave her there and let her get arrested... she got herself into that mess!

I agree 100% I'd teach my child a lesson of the law if it ever came to that and then show them some of my discipline

From personal experience, I know shoplifting can be so addicting. Nothing good ever comes out of it, sit her down and make sure she knows that it is NOT okay to just take what you want.

What is it with people like you? Whether you raise a kid well or not, they're still bound to make some mistakes as they grow up. Get off your high horse and take a reality check.

Make her pay for the item in full, people who shoplift disgust me.

The hardest thing I ever did was leave my son in jail when he broke the law. But now that he is grown, he respects both me and the law. Sometimes NOT bailing them out really is the better option.

I say let her spend a night in jail. That's what I'd expect my parents to do if I was stupid enough to get arrested. Especially for something as dumb as this.
