The bottom line

Today, I work in healthcare, and I was told that since someone quit I have to work Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas day, and all of New Year's weekend. This is after I was told, "Our workplace is a family." FML

You don't "have to" do anything. With the shortage of healthcare workers, you call the shots. If they're so ****** that one person quitting takes away all of your holidays, imagine how ****** they'd be if you left, too.

I feel like it’s a red flag whenever a workplace describes their environment as being one big family because most of the time they’ll put you at ease so they can take advantage of you for when sh** hits the fan.

Typically you see your family on holidays so insist that whoever came up with that schedule is also there on those days.

Well, those are typically days you spend with your family, so at least their logic is consistent.

Holidays are the best time to make hours

It is like family! You have to spend the Holidays with them, and you hate every minute!
