Today, I found out that my friends all think, "Don't worry about it" means "It's free." I'm a few thousand dollars in debt and they back each other like a gang. Never mind all the Aussies who say it means, "Pay slowly." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I found out that my parents are 28,000 dollars in debt and that my bank account has $27.17 in it. They took my money to help pay their debt. FML
Today, I found out that my girlfriend of almost 6 years has put me in debt over $33,000. FML
Today, I listened as my ridiculously wealthy friend excitedly rambled on and on about her latest shopping trip. This is the same friend who owes me £150, and accused me of being insensitive for asking her to repay it at some point. FML
Today, my friend won’t pay me back the money I lent her. I stupidly lent her $1200. She’s calling me an “inconsiderate bitch” because I “have a good paying job, I’ll be alright.” FML
Today, I found out I owe the IRS over $2,000 because of a mistake they made. Their "apology" basically amounted to "Oops, our bad. Now pay up or you're gonna be Bubba's new bitch." FML
Today, I confronted my friend about the £260 he owes me. He got offended and said, "Friends don't have to pay back." He called me selfish and walked off. FML
Today, my fiancée "thought I should know" that she has a $125,000 student loan debt. FML
Today, I was worried because it's July and I still haven't found a summer job, despite applying to 50 places. It was fine, because I remembered my savings account. I told my parents. Instead of being relieved, they said they're going to take the money from me for being lazy, and using it for my tuition, despite promising to pay for it. FML
Today, my sister finally broke down and told me that our dad gambled away of all my college savings, and I would have to pay for school the best way I can. They have known for months, and when I asked why nobody told me, the reply was, "You're a college boy, we thought you would figure it out." FML
Today, I discovered that the five-star meal that my friend treated me to last night was actually meant to be repayment of the $200 I loaned her last month. I needed that money for bills and she refuses to give me another cent. FML

Just want to put it out there that as an Aussie I have never ever ever heard ‘don’t worry about it’ used as a pay me back later. Usually it’s a ‘when you can’ ‘no rush’ type of thing. I’m with your friends on this one, you tell me not to worry about it I’ll take it as I don’t have to pay you back

I'll second this. If a friend is $5 short and I have a little extra? I'll tell them "Don't worry about it!" meaning that I'm their friend and I've got them. If they need $100 for a plumbing emergency and I can help? That's "Take your time, you don't have to pay me back right away." If you're *ever* lending someone money, it better not be money *you* need, and any terms of repayment should be discussed up front.

I only say don’t worry about it when I am not looking for compensation.

Aussie here. Nope - when I say don't worry about it, I MEAN don't worry about it. Don't worry about your debt, I'm sure they really mean for you to pay them back slowly.

“Don’t worry about it” is literally you saying they don’t have to worry about paying you back. This is all your own fault.

You need to tell them sternly "yeah yeah, nah mate"

As with every single other commenter here, I agree that "don't worry about it" means "don't worry about paying me back." More importantly, Don't Loan Out Money You Can't Afford To Lose. EVER.

to me there is a difference when some one needs money and asks for it and i say "dont worry about it" from going out somewhere and saying it if theyve asked for money it means there gunna be paying it back and if its going out somewhere and paying then it means its on me so id say there needs to be more context here to justify ydi or fml

I’m Australian and if I tell someone not to worry, it literally means that! Why would someone then later worry about paying you back?!

just do the same thing back to them or just take them to court to get your money back
