Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, after my therapist told me I should open up to my friends more, I sent a message to a pen-pal and told her that I had asked for and found help with my postpartum troubles. She replied that I'm a bad friend for "always burdening her with my problems." FML
Today, my wife told me to stop talking about my depression, in case the neighbours hear and think she’s a bad wife for not being able to keep me happy. FML
Today, I told my friend over the phone that I had to go drop the kids off at the pool. She told me that she didn't need to know about my bathroom habits and hung up on me. I really had to take my children to the local swimming pool for swim lessons. FML
Today, my friend needed to talk out bad feelings. Then she urged me to open up as well. I hate doing it, but it only seemed fair, so I confessed my deep insecurities. Not only did she agree with everything, but she also helpfully added that I'm boring, have no life, and all my dreams are unattainable. FML
Today, at work, I was told I was a failure. Feeling like crap, I went to my best friend to see if he could make me laugh. He told me that he felt obligated to hang out with me, so he thought that we shouldn't anymore. FML
Today, I finally shared some of my insecurities and difficulties I’m experiencing with a close friend. The response was great, they listened, and gave advice. Later I met another friend, who said that they’re here for me. Everyone was just trying to help, but now almost everyone I know knows. I feel worse than before. FML
Today, I opened up to my best friend about my depression. Her response: "If you're so depressed, why don't you just kill yourself?" FML
Today, I was sitting with a group of people at lunch. I was having a bad day, so I began venting to them. Eventually, they got tired of it and banned me from the table, because my "depressing mindset" reminds them of their trauma. FML
Today, I was telling my best friend that I was feeling unattractive, and that I never get asked out. As she was trying to make me feel better, we were interrupted by a stranger trying to hit on her. FML
Today, I messaged my two best friends for emotional support. I don't normally do this, as I feel like I'm bothering people, but I was having a breakdown. One never replied; the other said, "Everyone is having a hard time" then talked about her own problems. FML

Not sure whether depressing stuff should be discussed in public, but then again you probably have/had bigger worries at that time. Good thing you're talking about it to somebody, though. It's the first step on the way to getting over the depression.

Whether or not you were being Bitch, whiny, annoying, etc. that's still not something you say to someone. People these days are rude. Couldn't she have moved her child away and such? Sigh, people.

Complaining about your life out in public is just asking for it, if you want your conversation to be private, do it in a private setting.

That's...not how conversations work. Just because a person is having a conversation in a public place, that doesn't give random strangers the right to tell them what they can and can't talk about. That's called being a rude asshole.

Come on now! No negativity in front of the kids. They must believe in a perfect world with fairy princesses and Santa Clause until they are at least 25. What is wrong with you OP?!

Should've told her to mind her own business, and tell her children to stop eavesdropping on other people's conversations. It's not just all about her.

Tell her to butt the hell out of your conversation. She has no right to tell you what you can and can't talk about while you're in public.

You should have looked her in the eyes and said here is a big bag of **** off.

I mean the woman was rude, but that's no reason to swear at her. Also, why would you swear in front of that woman's innocent little children?

^really? I seriously hope that was sarcasm. I would've told her to **** off, and that what I said was my business. If she didn't want to here it, she shouldn't have started talking to me.

Tell her to take her kids somewhere else then! A public place is just that PUBLIC! She can deal with it.

I don't see anything wrong with this if you were just having a normal conversation. You said the woman had to walk over to you to complain so I don't see why she and her kids couldn't have just walked away if it was that irritating.

Smile! Be happy ALL THE TIME! Because if you're not happy, then some random strangers' kids who don't know you from a hole in the ground might be PSYCHOLOGICALLY TRAUMATISED and we don't want that! So smile all the time even as your brain crumbles from the despair and worry that you are experiencing until bugs come out of the walls and sometimes you sometimes feel like your body isn't yours and you want to kill yourself, but that's not a problem really! You can't let small children know that people are unhappy, even though this will probably cause them maybe five minutes of slightly down thoughts if it even registers with them! So smile! Be happy! You can't be miserable in public! It's for the good of society!* *Society doesn't care if you fake-smile yourself crazy. Just don't bother anyone else with it.

Being open with depression is actually the best way to treat it. So keep talking about it as long as someone is willing to listen.

Forget about her children, you need to get your feelings out!
