Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I'm reviewing articles for a medical journal. The stuff submitted that was partially written by AI is such utter crap, I have to take a break every 30 minutes so I don't kill myself or tell the authors they're morons. It actually makes me miss being a minimum wage dishwasher in summer. FML
Today, I was accused of using AI to write something, all because I used the Oxford Comma ; I use it all the time, and always will. The internet has become such a total shitshow. FML
Today, a professor accused me of using ChatGPT to write an essay. His proof? My use of em dashes. You know, these – things. I have always used them. Look – – –, here's a few more. I'm so annoyed with AI and I'm afraid it's going to get worse. FML
Today, I got an A+ on a writing assignment. My teacher asked me three times if I really did write this article myself, and didn't memorise an article from the Internet. FML
Today, I just spent the last 3 years working on a research project and published about it, read by a multitude co-authors and proofreaders. My mum just spotted it has the word "asses" in it, instead of "assess". FML
Today, after my company laid off half the contractors I usually deal with and replaced them with AI tools, I spent my day “collaborating” with a chatbot that keeps calling me Steve. My name isn’t Steve. FML
Today, my partner caught me cheating... on ChatGPT. I was secretly using AI to write my love poems. She said that she knew it, because she could “feel the difference in emotional tone.” FML
Today, my boss is forcing my team to prove his AI project saves time. It doesn't, and it's mainly just RSS feeds. A few years ago, when I shared with him how these automated feeds could help us avoid doing extra work, he told our team not to use them. He never said why. FML
Today, it's been a week since I giggled at my coworker who was worried our jobs will be replaced by AI, since we're delivery drivers. At first I was amused and sceptical, but some sort of paranoia has since kicked in, and I'm now imagining AI drones taking over our jobs and I'm bugging out. FML
Today, my neighbors heard me when I was yelling to an AI model for not following instructions. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

Yeah, right, robot. Not falling for it.

According to an article I read in The NY Times - That’s not the first or only time that has happened… If you need to prove your authorship you might show whoever accused you your notes or early version of the article. I think it’s possible in Microsoft Word for example to go back multiple revisions (it actually keeps track of all the revisions even when it’s not showing them). Obviously if you have multiple revisions prior to submission then it wasn’t AI written… The real problem is that there are lazy people who will use someone else’s or AI’s work and claim it as their own. So people try to check that it’s not a plagiarized version or AI written. But AI learns from what people have written and put on the web and sometimes the styles are very similar.

It was probably flagged by an AI bot. Go figure.

That's an awkward way to find out you're a replicant.
