Today, I bought my first house, blowing nearly all my savings on the deposit. I had left myself enough for just a couple of necessary bits of furniture. It turns out the previous owner completely stripped the house when he left, taking the oven and even the toilet with him, amongst other things. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I started packing up the flat I have been renting. As I took a picture off the wall I also ripped half the wallpaper. That's my deposit gone. FML
Today, after spending two weeks renovating my room and $1000 on paint and a new floor, my landlord told me that he's sold the house. Also, he was kind enough to inform me that unless I paint the walls back to white, I won't be getting my $500 deposit back. FML
Today, it's been months since I inherited a nice house, only to discover it overrun with squatters. I had to legally evict them, costing thousands. When they were ordered to vacate, they set the house on fire. Now I have a blackened ruin and depleted savings. FML
Today, my great aunt left me her house in her will. She probably thought she was doing something nice, but unfortunately she has no head for practical matters and ownership included both her mortgages, so by the time I sold her house and paid the mortgages, I’m now £140,000 in the hole. FML
Today, and over the years, my wife has methodically destroyed our house, insisting she is good at DIY. Our house is either in bits, half-finished or falling apart. I had it confirmed by a realtor, who assessed the house as worth 100 grand less than we paid for it. It’s a building site with a roof. FML
Today, I bought a home at a bargain. It will need 5 grand in repairs to fix plumbing and electric, but it's mine. When I pulled up the listing to show pictures to my friends, there was a new listing that was in the same neighborhood, and a larger, nicer house that is move in ready. Same price. FML
Today, a week after spending most of my paycheck on a down-payment and rent on a new apartment, I found out the "landlord" I paid was a scammer. Turns out the real owner was away on vacation, and he'd stolen most of her stuff before showing me the place. FML
Today, after moving into my new house, my partner's father came to give us his old sofa. Now, an hour before he has to leave, he's half-completed 3 DIY jobs we didn't want done in the first place, and smashed my water inlet pipe. I have no water and a destroyed kitchen. FML
Today, my husband and I were finally about to put our house on market because we have killed our savings on moving and two mortgages for the past couple of months. Then the pipes burst. Awesome. FML
Today, I got a pay bonus and spend it on paying for 12 months of car registration up-front for the first time in my life, filled the tank, and got it professionally washed. After all that, I accidentally reversed into my own house, causing major damage. I have to borrow the money for the insurance excess. FML

When we bought our home, the previous owner did the same thing. We called the realtor we bought the house through and complained. The owner had a legal obligation to bring back the things he took and reinstall them himself. I don't if that will work for you, but it's worth a try!

Yeah they need to inform you if they're going to do that and have it written in the contract. If its not written in the contract and they did so that is illegal. But congrats on your new home and sorry that happened to you.

sadly, people buy things all the time that cost more than their savings so they spend more money than they even have, and do it so much that it builds up a bubble and it eventually pops. its a long story of what happens after that, but in short, everyone gets ******. except bank ceo's...apparently they get raises

But it's in the mortgage what is and what is not included when you purchase the house.. Op should have read the mortgage thoroughly and if the seller did not include what they were supposed to op can do something about it. That's how it was with my realtor anyway.

Obviously the previous owner was deceptive. OP would of been interested in the house and asked to view the house. On inspection there would of been a toilet and stove because if the bare basics are missing, any normal person would of run for the hills.

that's why you need to make sure your contract states what's going to be left in the house. Or that the house is "as is" so if the previous owner tries to pull something like that.

I would suggest you get a toilet first, then the oven. Toilets are important. Unless you you want to be digging holes in your back yard.
