Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, at the ripe old age of 24, I briefly forgot my own name. FML
Today, I was diagnosed with a self-destructive personality among other things. I saw everything from my past instantly, like photographic memory recall. It was utterly terrifying, from extreme childhood drug-induced trauma that continues to this day. FML
Today, I can remember enough of a song for it to be stuck in my head, but not enough of it to help me identify the song. FML
Today, I realized that I’m just living. Nothing I want matters. Just the same repetitive thing day after day. What must I do for things to change? FML
Today, I went to bed early, proud of myself for being responsible. However, I lay there wide awake replaying every awkward moment from the past ten years, including things no one else can possibly remember. I checked the clock at 3:47 AM and had to wake up at 6. FML
Today, it took me longer than it should have with a bit of calculations to remember how old I am. FML
Today, again I wrote out another FML. Again, I deleted it before posting. Every FML I write would seem like I'm just making stuff up, or would be so obviously me that it would just cause me grief. My life is just an endless stream of weird stuff I can't tell family or friends. FML
Today, I realized that mixing alcohol with my medication causes me to lose my memory. I went to see my favorite band in concert last night and I can't remember a single song they played. FML
Today, I blurted out something like "humdidumdum erm lalala" in public, attracting mystified stares. The thing is, I do this every time I remember something embarrassing I've said or done in the past, in an attempt to erase it out of my consciousness. So it happens a lot. FML
Today, I'm trying to sleep. If I fall asleep now, that's still four hours of sleep. My brain: "Enjoy this retrospective of assorted failures from your childhood through today! We now join the program already in progress." FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Been in a traumatic accident? TBI’s cause that. And BOY do I know it... 36 and I feel like I have dementia already from 3x TBI’s in 4 years.

Possible late-set ADD? Maybe always had ADD but some other issue has appeared? If you've not had to do it in your school years and it's appearing out of nowhere, it doesn't hurt to get an opinion about it. There's a recorded person diagnosed with Dementia at age 23. (Early-onset dementia) but I mean, that's in a league of it's own and very severe. Good luck OP!

I'm 40 and still write reminders on my hand. Find compensating mechanisms that work and stick with it.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? There are multiple conditions that could affect your short term memory, and some of them (like ADHD, for example) are lifelong. But if this is a new development, it would be a good idea to figure out what is going on with your brain.

Either use the “Notes” app on your smart phone or carry a little note pad and write the things down you want to remember. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses. You have memory issues, rather than stressing over that, use the tools available to you to save the information you need. You might even find that writing or otherwise recording it actually improves your ability to recall it - That was my case in school. My wife has memory issues from a stroke she had in her 20’s and she keeps a very detailed calendar and writes things down she needs to remember. I have a very good memory for what I did, what was said - but a poor memory for people’s names. We all have different strengths and weaknesses - Learn to compensate.
