Landlords are social parasites

Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I received yet another increase in my rent. When I moved into my crappy one bedroom apartment in Ohio on Feb 1st 2020 my rent was $525 a month. Now 4 years later its $1050. A 100% increase in 4 years. FML
Today, I asked my landlord if I could get a dog. He said no, and gave me an illegal rent increase. FML
Today, I was notified that my work is cutting my pay almost in half. I just renewed my long-term lease on an expensive apartment because I was able to afford it before this morning. Now I have no idea how I’m going to pay for it. FML
Today, my landlord told me he is raising my rent next month. I thought he was kidding until he asked if I still wanted to live here. My landlord is also my live-in boyfriend. FML
Today, my landlord increase my rent because of the "increased value of the flat". Why has the value increased? Because I decorated and replaced the broken fixtures. FML
Today, after I got a second job to help cover rent, my landlord just raised it anyway “because the neighborhood is up-and-coming.” There’s still a pothole the size of a kiddie pool in front of my building. FML
Today, I have Covid, caught during a work trip I didn't want to go on, AND my apartment has flooded for the third time since Thanksgiving. My landlord seems to have no intention of fixing the issue. FML
Today, I found out that my rent is going up by $100. This is the third year in a row. I'm on SSI ($914/month) and it was $550 when I moved in before the pandemic. I'm also morbidly obese, schizophrenic, and my family doesn't respect me. FML
Today, my husband has a chronic illness and can't work. We have 2 special needs kids who need a lot of assistance. Rent continues to go up and went up this year $570 for a total of $1800. I've taken up a second job to make ends meet, but it's increasing my depression. FML
Today, I got a housekeeping warning from my landlord. After struggling with multiple serious health issues, I’ve also been dealing with a horrible case of depression as a result. When I tried to explain this to the manager, she decided to get the county involved and try to have me committed. FML

I check with your city and state to see if they passed emergency legislation prohibiting rent increases until after the pandemic. A lot of places did

It would fit nicely with the theme of 2020 so far.

He should be grateful that he had a loyal tenant that has been paying rent. I would approach him to ask if he could hold off for 6 months if you need time to financially recover, it’s not as if he could evict you at the moment (due to the government rental scheme).

Doesn’t that also freeze rent prices? You could effectively ‘evict someone’ simply by increasing rent beyond their means otherwise.

Are places that are open not hiring? I imagine there has to be something.

but then it becomes an issue of supply and demand. there isn't enough jobs, also you don't know ops feild, level of education, or how much rent is. ops feild maybe still hit hard.

I don’t think your landlord can increase the rent because of the pandemic, check the law and with Tenants Board. Also there’s a rent relief in UK for landlords I believe so no excuses
