Kids…
Today, at my job as a teacher, I saw a student cut another student's hair, I stopped a group of students from eating glue, and I had to tell a student to put away the toy cars he was playing with. I teach high school math. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, it’s only the first week of school and already I’ve confiscated five vapes, ended makeup tutorials along with full pallets and contour kits, broken up three fist fights, and had to remind the class of the importance of keeping one’s clothes on during school. I teach fourth grade. FML
Today, I was teaching and a boy sitting in front kept laughing and smiling, even after I asked him to cut it out. I got so annoyed that I jokingly said I'd knock his teeth out, and asked him to leave the class. The kid went to the principal and told him I intended to hurt him. I'm a college professor. FML
Today, I caught one of my students checking out my butt while I was helping another student at his table. I teach 8th grade. FML
Today, I went to my job as an aide for first-grade students. I went home with a swollen face after my student punched me because I was, "making the timer go too fast" and he wanted more iPad time. FML
Today, a student told me to fuck off. I work with 3 year-olds. FML
Today, during class, a student began arguing with my Algebra II teacher about whether or not water is wet. The student became so frustrated he threw a stapler across the room. Guess who got hit in the head and is currently bleeding pints in the nurse's office. FML
Today, I was tutoring kids at an elementary school. One kid messed up my hair. I said, "Why'd you do that??" He said, "I have lice, now you have lice too!" FML
Today, my math teacher raged at a student for eating an apple in class. As he yelled at the student, he slapped the apple out of his hand and right into my face. Everyone laughed, including the teacher. FML
Today, during a class, I noticed some racist statements and symbols on a table. While erasing them, I bent down to pick up my dropped pencil. I look back up to see a teacher, and got a suspension. FML
Today, as I was yelled at by a middle school teacher in front of 30 6th graders for breaking the rule of "no cell phones in school." Luckily, I escaped being sent to the office after explaining I'm a 21 year old college student doing student teaching observations, not a middle schooler. FML

I really sympathize with our public school's teachers. They have to deal with so much crap that isn't in their job description but they stick it out and do it with a smile (most of the time) because they are not just teaching students math or science or English, but how to not be stupid little *****.

This is also a story on a site devoted to shitty events. It comes with the mother-of-all sampling biases; nobody looks good in these stories.

Your students sound like a casting call for "Arrested Development"... FYL indeed.

well it is HIGH school, as op put it. Maybe to their marijuana minds they're doing experiments and equations. Take the guy with the toy car. Maybe he thinks he's doing a velocity equation.

Why did they have toy cars?

In general... The reason is always "why not." I once spent a month confiscating marbles from 7-year-old kids because they didn't seem to understand that marbles + floor + teacher with broken foot on crutches = death. Also... When I was in high school... Plenty of people carried around knitting. It was a huge trend. they had meetings about it where the teachers tried to ban it and the kids argued it was good for concentration. You'd literally have people doing crochet under the desks during lecture. It was hilarious. Lesson learned: Just go with it.

Probably the same reason a classmate of mine carried a doorknob in his pocket. ... I never figured that one out, either.

My freshman year I had a friend who would always bring silly putty and a small toy elephant to school with her.

We age but don't mature. Only difference between elementary and high school is that the teachers care less.

Yep. That's what the end of the school year looks like at a high school.

Doesn't suprize me, with college kids needing "safe spaces" because they can't handle negative words, high school is like the new kindergarten.

I cry for two reasons: The first is sympathy for you. The second is WTF!? High school!? This generation both fascinates and terrifies me

My English teacher told us that one time a girl was trying to pierce another girl's ear during class. When she told them they can't do that here, they asked if they can go to the bathroom.
