Today, my dentist called and told me that the surgery to remove my wisdom teeth - which I desperately need and saved for a year to be able to afford - will actually cost nearly $2000 more than originally stated. The surgery is supposed to be in three days. FML

Today, I went to the dentist after not being there for 3 years. I was told that I had loads of cavities and that I would need to pay $3,000 for a serious mouth surgery. The reason I hadn't been to the dentist in 3 years: I've been married to a dentist for 3 years that said my teeth were "perfect." FML
Today, I canceled my dental check-up because I'm getting busy at work. Then, as I was flossing, my finger slipped, I heard a "crunch" from one of my fillings, and I now have a killer toothache. It's costing me double to go to the dentist because it's now an emergency call. FML
Today, it was the fourth time I've had major dental work done, because my dentist messed up my root canal. After almost a dozen needles, three missed work days, over $1,000, and 2 broken tools, I only have a tiny, barely-successful filling to show for it. FML
Today, I went to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth removed. The surgeon took a better X-ray to see what he was dealing with before he got started. When he came back into the room, he started to laugh and told me it was my lucky day because in the X-rays he found 2 big extra wisdom teeth. FML
Today, after 6 dentist visits, 2 root canals, and $1,500 that I'll likely have to sell vital organs to pay, the agonizing tooth pain I've had for months is unrelenting. Apparently, shrugging and offering to experimentally yank all my bottom teeth is my smurf-shit of a dentist's actual plan. FML
Today, in a bid to avoid going to the dentist, my husband decided to have one of his drunk buddies pull his tooth out with pliers. Now he has to have surgery to remove the shards of tooth left rotting in his mouth. It’s going to cost thousands. Thanks babe. FML
Today, the gums around my wisdom teeth are so badly swollen that I can't talk. I called a dentist to find out if I could see them for a removal. They told me to contact a surgeon, or go to the hospital emergency room. I have no insurance. FML
Today, I went to the dentist at 8:30 for a check up. I walked out at 2:00 with a root canal and several thousand dollars in debt. I guess I'm not having a wedding this year or quitting the job I hate. FML
Today, I went to the dentist two years after having a front tooth knocked out because I could finally (barely) afford the $4000 bill for an implant. They checked me out and told me that my teeth have shifted to the point that I’ll need braces before receiving an implant, for another $4k bill. I’m sick of looking like a hick. FML
Today, I went to the doctor's for the third time in a week for a huge growth under my jaw. I have seen an urgent care doctor, an emergency room doctor and an ear, nose and throat specialist who all gave me different diagnoses. I've so far spent $300. FML

Go to Mexico to have them removed. Do plenty of research before hand. You’ll end up saving money, and it won’t be any different than having them removed here in the states.

Do you have a written proposal for the original amount? I'd fight it,but your dentist could still refuse. Usually you'd go to an oral surgeon to get that stuff removed. Shop around for other dentist's. If your dentist couldn't tell you the correct price the first time, maybe he/she is price gouging. But maybe you have impacted teeth? More than 4? Situations can be different. Keep shopping!

Because we’re ******* idiots! We pay twice as much as the next most expensive country yet we have worse outcomes. You’d think we’d get national health insurance just for the efficiency, not to mention the social justice. Obama started us in the right direction.

Because healthcare isn't a "human right". The doctors can charge whatever they want. Plus will charge extra to cover the uninsured. That's why a cup of jello is $15

I recently took a friend to the dentist, to get a quote to remove 4 severely impacted teeth. They referred who to an oral surgeon, who said the MAX amount for removing 4 wisdom teeth would be about 2000, total. So I'd say get your xrays and get a price quote from somewhere else.

Damn that's cheap where I live there's only a hand full of oral surgeon's for a area that's bigger than 14 of the smallest state's and all of them only take cash, I'm going to have to travel several hrs to find a oral surgeon who won't charge me several grand just to fix my jaw but was only quoted for about 2 grand if I travel to Minnesota or Wisconsin in Michigan none of the surgeon's take med insurance for adults but will for kids or adults of it's a life or death emergency

That is much too expensive. Shop around man! Shouldn’t cost more than 300 a tooth without insurance!
