Don't mess with Texas
Today, my boss gave me a verbal warning. My crime? Calling people "Hon'", "Darlin'", and the like. I work at a Texas diner. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I was disciplined by my boss for "not smiling enough." I'm a dishwasher. FML
Today, my boss suspended me for laughing too hard at my desk and causing a big scene in front of our customers. I was laughing because he'd forwarded me a hilarious email. He was practically smirking as he handed me my official warning. FML
Today, my new boss sat me down and told me he's seriously reconsidering my hire, all because I greeted him with, "Howdy, boss!" instead of, "Good morning, sir." Apparently this indicates a lack of respect for his authority. FML
Today, my boss gave me a warning for "insulting our best customer" after she saw a comment on her customer card saying "stop giving this fat bitch free samples." My boss had written it in the first place, but refuses to either remember or admit it. FML
Today, my assistant manager was arguing with a customer. I interjected letting the customer know that "we want everything to be copacetic." After the customer left, I received a write up for using "big words." FML
Today, my boss yelled at me in front of several customers for gesturing too much while I talk, because it's "unprofessional". I was using sign language. FML
Today, at my dining job, my boss told me the food was "technically illegal to serve," air quotes and all. FML
Today, at work, I was fired from my job for being too "forward" to my boss. All I did was get him coffee and a biscuit from McDonald's to celebrate his 15-year anniversary working there. FML
Today, my boss finally pronounced my name correctly. My name was then followed by the words, "You're fired." FML
Today, my boss bitched me out for a customer complaint. The complaint was me not laughing at the customer's joke of me asking for his ID and him saying no. I'm sorry, I've been getting this "joke" a least twice a day since I started working here two years ago. FML

So I'm the OP and I originally put this as "live and work in the South" but someone stole the post and it is what it is. Saw this come up again on my random FML posts and scrolled the comments. Interesting. I am in rural Virginia and it is what everyone calls each other. Grew up in Colorado and picked up the colloquialisms of the southeast while learning to say "soda" instead of "pop". It was a transplant coworker from New England who complained about me saying it to another coworker, who used the same terminology. It isn't a diner, it's retail, where half of our customers are regulars we know by sight but not name. Everywhere I go in central Virginia it's the same mannerisms and wording. Sir and ma'am get me in far more trouble - "I'm not a sir, I work for a living! Don't call me ma'am, I'm barely older than you!" It's interesting how many people take offense to what we 'should' call them, and what we 'shouldn't' call them is just as bad......we can't learn everyone's names, we have more on our minds than you think, so what do you want us to do? We can't please everyone, I guess. I no longer wonder why the world is going to hell in a handbag wearing gasoline underpants (yeah, another colloquialism).
