Today, I was laid off from my job as a manager. After cleaning out my office, I began clearing my computer. I received an email from HR announcing a job position that opened up. Too bad it was for my job. FML

Actually, if you were "laid off" legitimately, you have the right to that job. Now, are you sure you were laid off, or were you really fired? If you were laid off, I'll bet the new job is at a lower pay grade so they can get someone to do your job more cheaply. Corporate America sucks.

I'm pretty sure if their resin for letting you go is lack of work and you are laid off they have to give you the opportunity to come back before they fill your position. If they hire someone else you are entitled to severance pay by law. And after 13 weeks you are owed severance if they haven't called you back.

they can't lay you off then hire someone else, either it was for a different position or you got fired and didnt admit it

This is the OP. I worked under contract for the client for over 15 years. The client underwent new management and in their quest to streamline their operations, rewrote their contract with the firm I worked for. The client decided not to include me in that.
