Today, while on holiday in Melbourne, I begged my wife to take a day off from yelling angrily at our 4 year-old. A few hours later, she was cursing and yelling in front of gathering onlookers because he didn't want to go inside LegoLand. FML
Is Australia one of those countries where they give custody to the mother even if she’s a meth-head who starts fires and kicks puppies? Because if it’s not, divorce and get custody. If it is, divorce, bribe the judge and get custody.
Some children are more difficult than others. Some adults are just not cut out to be “good” parents. Put the two together and it’s highly dangerous!
If this is abnormal behavior for your wife, try to figure out what the real problem is that’s upsetting her. If this kind of behavior occurs frequently and with some regularity. In the best case “mom” needs to have counseling, either psychological or in parenting. In the worst case you need to intervene to protect your child which may mean divorce and custody…
Unfortunately behavior seems to come from two places - Tendencies you are born with (genetics in other words) and the behaviors a child was taught or saw modeled in others. Unfortunately not all “birds of a feather” get along together. Mom and child might both have problem tendencies…
Note - If mom is feeling overwhelmed being the sole person to care for hers and your child, maybe it’s time you took over some of that role.

Definitely something deeper going on here. See if you can check in with your wife - in a calm moment - try to talk to her about why she does this?
My mother yelled at me and my sister all the time. Turns out they're both autistic so they caused each others' meltdowns (unknowingly) and I ended up with the emotional fallout. Don't let that happen to your family.
