#1 said it all, the only thing that abstinence lessons do is make sure teens are unprepared when they let their hormones take over. One mistake with abstinence (no condom) often ends in a baby. Ten decisions with proper sex ed. (condom or at least the pill) almost always ends in no babies, no STDs, just some possible regret. The idea of "saving" yourself for marriage is an archaic custom from a time without birth control and other protections and when a woman's virginity was seen as a commodity.
take a look at the statistics here for a second: European Teenagers have twice as much sex as American Teenagers, yet American Teenagers have twice as many teen pregnancies this can be seen in one of two ways: 1: American Teens are... um... four as "potent" as European Teens or 2: European Teens are better educated on sex, and use condoms and other forms of birth control I'm betting on #2. only because in Europe they actually have separation of church and state (meaning no christian/Jewish/Islam/Muslim belief based laws), and therefore the teens actually get the truth, and all of it. Religion has always been about one thing, controlling people's sexuality. control that, and you can easily control the masses without them knowing it. It is also because of this the that enemy of religion is not science, but history, and also in the case of Christianity (and more specifically Catholicism) the printing press. History shows us that religion doesn't have, and never did have, all the answers. and the printing press educates the masses so that they can question their faith. Before the printing press in Christianity it was, 'believe what I say, I'm the pope/priest', at least in Judaism even the lowliest farmer could debate religion with the Rabbi, without being called a heretic. again, I've strayed off topic, but I feel it needed to be said. teach kids everything, including abstinence, but also teach them about safe sex. If they want to have sex (which a lot do) they'll know how to protect themselves. if they want to remain abstinent, they can do that too. but don't screw our kids up about sex over outdated traditions and our own squeamishness. give them the information, and let them make their own decision, it's time for them to start having to think for themselves to. if they are going to have sex, they might as well know the risks and benefits. all of them.
UrLifeDoesntSuck, shut the **** up. honestly, if I wanted to spend my spring break learning how to speak in a more appropriate way on an internet forum, I could join a chat room with my English teacher. If you have that little of a life that you can sit at your computer and yell at people for their mistakes, I feel bad for you. Get some friends, get a life, and go suck a dick. And I agree with 109, stop pretending that you're better than everyone else. Everyone else, i agree with you, too
LOL now there's irony! :o) Maybe God was punishing you for boring poor innocent boys? I thought #1 was speaking tongue-in-cheek, and laughed out loud! :o) Personally, I agree that teaching kids to practice abstinence is like teaching the household pet to take its dirty feet off before entering the house. - But I don't need to bawl OP out for that. One suggestion to OP: next time you have to give an abstinence talk, write "you can look but don't touch" across your cleavage in case you have another "wardrobe malfunction". - Think of it as "positive reinforcement" :o)
I would take it even further. If giving a talk about abstinence it is in fact your moral duty to sexaulise it in some way. Well done!
YDI for giving a speech on abstinence. abstinence is just another way of saying 'i can't get laid' or 'i'm ******-up so you probably won't wanna do me anyway!'
i was pretty sure abstinence was for not drinking alcohol so i looked up to be sure. and sure enough it says typically to alcohol. so why does everyone think it is about not having sex
#145 you're an idiot. it means not having sex. why don't you try looking it up again.

The fact that you gave a 3 hour speech on abstinence means you deserved it. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
More teachers should use this method.
