Today, We went to Chicago for the first time. We parked at the station and took the train. I thought I was being smart by locking my purse in the car. Now I'm down a window, any way I have to prove who I am, and all of my money and debit card. Fml.

Sounds like your purse was within view, keeping your purse in the car isn't great in general, but if it can be seen, that's worse. Thieves look for sure deals and easy targets, if they can clearly see a score, they'll go for it. If you want to leave it in the car, I find the best way is to either hide it well so it's completely covered and unseen, or lock it in the trunk.

How have you gone your whole life without knowing to never ever leave valuables in your vehicle? Even when I park in the garage I remove everything and lock my doors. An insurance claim on the broken window is better than having to replace every form of ID and all your monetary things.
