Purses are always safest with you.
Sounds like your purse was within view, keeping your purse in the car isn't great in general, but if it can be seen, that's worse. Thieves look for sure deals and easy targets, if they can clearly see a score, they'll go for it. If you want to leave it in the car, I find the best way is to either hide it well so it's completely covered and unseen, or lock it in the trunk.
Good advice. I'd like to add that anytime I lock something valuable in my trunk, I do it BEFORE I get to my destination - if you put it in there where you're leaving your car, anyone could see it, wait till you leave, then smash the windows and pop the trunk from the inside because they know something is valuable in there. Just something to think about. Bonus tip: If you keep your trunk full of junk like I do, they'd have trouble finding anything valuable anyway and probably give up. So yes, it's good to have junk in the trunk. Haha.
I know this doesn't help you more but next time, try one of the following: 1: Put your purse in the trunk. 2: Keep your purse with you. 3: Leave your purse set home and only take your wallet in your pocket.
Never leave any bag or anything of value where someone can see it.
It doesn't take much common sense to know you don't leave your purse in a car, especially in s big city like Chicago.
Never leave things like purses or cellphones within view if you decide to leave it in your car, just asking to get your window smashed in
I'm trying to figure out why you thought that was a good idea.
If you had an Alabama license plate they may have went for your car just because they knew you were vulnerable.
my friend's car window got smashed for two euro sunglasses. NEVER leave ANYTHING in you car.
Why would you take a trip into a city without any form of payment? You never know when you might need to take a taxi or buy a coffee or something.
