Today, my wife has the flu, while I have strep throat. We have a two-year-old toddler and have no clue as to who's more contagious and who should take care of her as to not get her sick. Yay for the entire day of surgical masks and Sesame Street. FML

This sounds like a job for Team Grandparents!

Well my recommendation would be just try get one of your parents to take care of your child or something because you don't really want your kid to get either of those!

"Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?"

Wash your hands constantly! And feel better soon. :)

Not totally sure which is more contagious (probably the flu due to the fact that with it comes coughing and sneezing which spread the virus and aren't symptoms that accompany strep) but I know strep is much more treatable. Can't really do anything with the flu except take some medicine to make the icky parts slightly less icky and let it work it's course. Strep on the other hand can be cleared up quite quickly with some antibiotics and even quicker when you add frequent salt water gargling to that.

As hard as it will be to watch as her parent, you should let her get sick! if you go through her life protecting her from every single disease, she won't develop a strong immune system and she'll always be getting sick as an adult when you can't protect her anymore!

Hell No! A toddler with the flu is a nightmare! They just barf anywhere and everywhere because they dont know to puke in the bucket you keep near them, or have enough common sense to run to the toilet and puke, so you will be cleaning it up all day. And they can get serious complications and even die from the flu vs a healthy adult, since their immune systems aren't strong yet. Their toddler will have plenty of germ exposure when he goes to school. They will probably catch 30 colds by the time the graduate high school. Kids are always catching some sort of germ once they start school.

thats stupid advice! the flu is dangerous to a small child and strep throat is extremely painful! if they can avoid getting their child sick, they should! kids are exposed to germs all the time, no need to overexpose them if it can be avoided.

It's not chicken pox idiot! Good grief I feel sorry for your kids, if you have any, the first death from the flu this year was a baby. Still think they should let their 2 year old get the flu? Have you ever had strep? I get it once a year like clockwork. I don't go near anyone, adult or child, until my antibiotics have kicked in. Some people should never reproduce.

The first two replies to my comment: I understand that they'll be exposed to many strains of diseases by the time they're an adult, and that children that are sick are a pain, but I wouldn't go out of my way to not even let one parent look after the kid just because they are sick. Like you say, they're going to be exposed to everything eventually, so what is the point of hiding one parent away? Just let nature take its course, the kid will come out stronger in the end. The third reply: 1) Read the above response to the first two replies. 2) Read the other two replies to my comment for a lesson on disagreeing with someone's opinion without straight up abusing them.

Welcome to Parenthood. Hope you all feel better soon.

You should all takes lots and lots of vitamin b my mom says to take it whenever we're sick. if that doesn't work go to your doctor to get antibiotics for the flu

Antibiotics don't work for the flu. The flu, like the common cold, cannot be cured. You can take suppressants, but that only treats the symptoms, not the virus itself.

Antibiotics for flu... Dear god, it's people like you that are the reason super resistant strains of bacteria exist. Also OP: surgical masks won't really help much. The mesh isn't fine enough to prevent even the largest viruses getting through. They'll only help for thinks like sneezing where there are larger lumps.

thank god you only have one child. imagine trying to do that with twins or something. time to call grandma and grandpa.

As a physician let me give you this advice. The flu has the potential to make your child a lot more ill!

If either of you has parents or a sibling in the area who isn't sick, get them to help. If not, call your doctor and determine who should avoid being around the kid.

your little one can't get strep yet, so she should only stay away from your wife.

This is a myth. Strep is uncommon in children, but it is CERTAINLY possible.

WTF? Where do people come up with this? My grandson had it at 8 months.
