Today, my older brother told me that no matter how fast you run at automatic sliding doors, they'll open in time. So I ran at a pair. They don't. FML

Older brothers will say anything to make you look like an idiot, and you can't move faster then the machine can do it's job. I can't believe you believed him.

FYI... automatic doors often open slowly as a loss prevention measure... they're supposed to slow a person down in the event that they have been spotted shoplifting or something and are trying to run away.

Wow. I'd say you walked right into that one, but you actually ran into it.

Do you know how they work? They're not speed-sensitive, idiot! They open at the same speed no matter what. Which should have been obvious if you've ever been through motion-sensor doors in your life before. I can't believe someone would actually think this could work.

First off, your "older brother" gave you this info . . . duh! The primary function of any big brother is to cause his younger siblings to do stupid things. You are very obliging. Put some ice on whatever you hurt and learn the lesson. dumba$$

First of all, YDI unless you're like 5 years old. Secondly, why are so many people saying American doors open really fast? I live in the US, and I walk through automatic doors all the time and almost always have to slow down as I wait for them to creak slowly open. This has happened to me in several states, often in new buildings that haven't had time to wear down with age.

I agree with #164. I live in the U.S and have never had that experience. Automatic doors are always slow to open...sometimes I avoid them altogether and just go to the doors that you open manually.
