Today, my mother sent a letter to my best friend trying to comfort her over the death of her mother. She signed the letter "LOL, Jen" thinking LOL stood for "lots of love." FML

Just call your friend and explain about the letter and tell her that your mom got to it before you got to sign it.she should understand

My mom also thought the same at a point, it was pretty awkward after she found out. But still provides a good laugh every once a while in a conversation.

LOL used to mean "Lots Of Love" until younger generations and the use of texting and social media SOCIALLY (not literally) changed LOL to mean "Laughing Out Loud." Your mom was correct, but society has altered the understanding.
