Today, my history teacher said I look like an "Irish gangster" so everyone would laugh. I told him that I'm not Irish. He said that I shouldn't have said anything because it was a joke. When I tried to speak, he gave me detention for "talking back". I just got detention for not being Irish. FML

Student counselor or vice principal- make an appointment to see them, inform them of what happened. What he did could be considered bullying a student. Reporting this event means they can start tracking incidents, and since once a teacher singles someone out as an "example" they tend to do it the entire year, starting early is a good idea.

Yeah I would take that right on up to the principal and possibly the superintendent.

Seems like something you should take to the principal. The teacher shouldn't be making jokes like that. Get the detention off your record.
