Today, my Dad came home with a $500 jacket that he'd bought himself for Christmas. I'd bought him the same one, and it's non refundable. FML

Same thing different taste
Today, I showed my father a nice sweatshirt online, hoping he would take the hint and get it for me. He did, three sizes larger than mine, for himself. FML
Looking for another one!
Today, I finally got a Christmas gift, a calligraphy set, for my father that I have been looking for for a month. My dad came home happily with the same calligraphy set today, saying that he surprised himself for Christmas. He got it cheaper than me. FML
Today, the first gift I opened was from my uncle. It was $80 in clothes that I'd bought for myself a week earlier. FML
Today, my brother found 100 bucks in his coat pocket. He was so happy he bought 2 new games for his x-box. He was borrowing my coat. FML
Today, I realized that not only did my parents not get me anything for Christmas, they also stole the $500 my grandparents gave me to buy a computer. FML
Today, I gave over $100 to my online friend in presents for Christmas, only to find out he can't use any because of his strict parents. FML
Today, I went down to my grandparents' house to spend some time with them. I was in the guest room when I noticed a box in the corner of the closet labelled "Crap". I opened up the box to see my Dad's John Elway Autographed Football in it. I got it for him for Christmas, it cost me $600. FML
Today, nearly Christmas, my dad got mad because I don't have enough money for holiday festivities. I can't afford things because I haven't gotten my paycheck yet. I work for my dad. FML
Today, as I was waiting in line to give my mom her birthday present, my dad gave her the exact same gift I'd also bought for her. FML
Today, my dad found the Father's Day present that I spent at least ten hours preparing and decorating. I'd expected him to be extremely happy about this lovely gift. His only reaction was to ask if he could exchange it for something else. FML

Screw it, wrap it and put it under the tree anyway. Teach him a lesson in patience.

You have excellent present-choosing skills, OP! Hopefully you can sell it or exchange it :)

That sucks that you spent so much money on it...but maybe one of you can do a good deed and donate it to charity or something! Not only will your father still have a nice jacket, but you can smile knowing you've made someone's day!

#7, she means donate the jacket. Not get another $500 and donate it.

#20 Donating the jacket would be the same as donating $500.

Well it's non refundable so what else can you do?

Aw, man, that sucks. I guess you get to keep this one, then.

Doesn't hurt to have a backup of a favorite jacket especially one that expensive.

I agree. More often than not, when it's time to replace it, you won't be able to find one exactly like it and you'll be glad to have a second. Or there is always Craigslist or EBay

Can't you sell it in eBay? You may end up making some extra money!

I thought that... You shouldn't buy yourself something at Christmas. I understand it's a lot of money, but he should've hinted that he wanted it, as opposed to buying it... Besides, it's not that far away from Christmas, I doubt he wouldn't be able to buy it after (that is, if he didn't get it- which he was going to)

I have done that, to my dad. I told him "Tough. You kept hinting that you want it, and then you go and buy it for yourself? Well, now you have two..."

I didn't even wait until Christmas to give it to him. Because he had done that two years in a row. My mom just told him to suck it.

This is why I don't buy presents for myself close to Christmas time, in case my gf or family member have already bought it.

Sell it on the black market at a highly inflated price

Black market prices work in the other direction.
