hey what are your other pets, a poodle and a parrot? if so, go see if the parrot is alive. pure ydi up in this bitch!
The people who get annoyed at being told the truth, are the ones who know I've called them out on being cruel to something that hasn't the power to change it's situation (the fish) A dog or cat can run away. Fish can't just pack up their gravel and jup out of the tank to find somewhere better. If someone did to a ktten or puppy , what most people do to a goldfish or betta, there'd be an outrage. They're cruel to fish and don't care about that fact, because fish can't make a pained noise when sick, and because you can't hug them or stroke soft fur. People who choose wether or not to research the care of an animal based on how cute and huggable it is, repulse me. There's a reason I don't work in an aquatic store. It's because of the sort of people I've seen posting in here. Who view these beautiful creatures as disposable ornaments for the home. I would happily batter such people in the face with a blunt instrument without compunction. ( just as a side note, I am NOT and never will be a member of PETA )
I agree. It's not the fish's fault, nor is it the cat's fault for doing what cats are programmed to do. It's the OP's fault for not securing the area when she knew there was a cat around. Congratulations, dumbass, you caused a lot of senseless death.
As others have said... you don't need to take fish out of the tank to clean it :P
Why did you remove the fish from the tank to clean it? did you have a bad ick break out or something?
112, if your fish are not living for at least 20 years then you are doing it wrong. Plain and simple. Keeping goldfish in a small tank stunts their Growth and in turn, their organs and THIS IS BAD FOR THEIR HEALTH YOU BLITHERING IDIOT. By keeping them in a small volume of water, even WITH a filter, you are exposing them to very high concentrations of Ammonia. You're doing this because the volume of water is not big enough to dilute the amount of waste even one goldfish produces, let alone more than one. By changing the water on your small tank only every fortnight instead of twice a week as you should be doing with a tank under 4 feet long, you are forcing your fish into an early grave by means of basic ammonia and Nitrite poisoning. You heigthen their risk of disease massively. I've been keeping fish for 20 years, my grandfather kept fish before me. He had 3 goldfish in a 6 foot tank that were well over 15 years old when I was a child, they were rehomed to a friend with a large pond when he died ( when I was 13 ) . 2 of them are still living to this day and I'm 28. Also " That's like saying a baby human is forcing organs meant for a 6-foot person into a 2-foot person. " What the hell is going on with that reasoning? A baby human being GROWS into that six foot person because they are given the freedom of movement to do so . They are given the space to grow and run around. They are not kept in a small box until adulthood as goldfish are. How many human babies do you think would healthily and happily survive being kept in a 3 foot by 3 foot box until they were 25 years old? Only getting their bodily waste removed from the box every fortnight with a VERY inadequate or non existant air replenishment system? How big would they grow? How healthy would such a person be?
@Love me electric - No, I am not remotely miserable . Not sure where that assumption comes from. I simply detest and despise people who hold no regard for other lives and consider certain species beneath their notice, and unworthy of correct care because they were too much of a brainless moron to do an hour's research into the proper care of something that can't defend itself in the face of such willful ignorance. I am not the only person in the world who knows how to take care of fish, but I am the only one who has replied to this FML that does, given the responses from those who own fish. 112's idiotic response as well as your own simply amplifies what I said in my earlier post. If you can't even work out that a fish that grows to a particular size, requires a decent amount of space to actually have a normal life, with room to move more than a few inches left or right, then you really shouldn't be allowed to breed.
