Today, it was my girlfriend's birthday. To surprise her, I told her that I was going away on business, and could not be there on her birthday. When I show up at her house to surprise her with a present and cake, she opens the door in her underwear, beside a man in his boxers. She was surprised. FML

Today, I came home to my wife packing a bag. We had been fighting recently and I understood why she was leaving, but then I noticed she wasn't packing her stuff. She explained that I was the one who was leaving, she was just packing my bag. FML

Today, I decided to surprise my girlfriend by cooking her dinner. I spent hours preparing and making sure everything was perfect. I lit candles, set the table, and even put on some soft music. When she came home, she'd already eaten and wasn't hungry. FML

Packing up all your stuff and leaving seems very harsh. I know nothing about the situation and it could be the only way to do it, but I would feel so awful for anyone who comes home to nothing, out of the blue like that.

Sorry, but there is probably more to this story. Work on communication, being thoughtful, open and honest in your next relationship. Don't rush into something. Instead work on yourself, build the old confidence and ask yourself, "am I self-absorbed?"
