Today, I finally completed the final draft of the novel I've been working on for over two years. Five minutes later, my girlfriend somehow managed to delete the whole file from the computer. FML

recuva is one of many free software products that can recover deleted files.

The longer you wait, the lesser are chances of getting it back. Try it, now. Just remember to save the recovered files on another drive than the source drive - a USB drive will be best.

Do a Google search for recovery software. There are plenty of free programs that can recover deleted files. If you still can't recover it, try taking the computer to a tech shop and pay for recovery services. FYL OP, that's a very unfortunate thing to happen. Hope it works out in the end!

This absolutely sucks but at the same time I've just finished my PhD thesis and I have back ups of back ups everywhere. If I'd spent years of my life working on something there is no way I wouldn't have saved it in all the places!

Backups are free to do with online services such as Media fire, Dropbox, OneDrive.

Sorry that happened op I've done stuff like that to myself an most of the time unless I really messed things up the file is in the recycling bin

Maybe there's a "see recent" on the thing you used?
