You worked on it for years and don't have backups?
Recycle bin is a thing
Try Recuva it may get it back; meanwhile, dump the dumb ass !
There's no way that was an accident, OP... I would have a serious talk right her after you get your files back.
That sucks, but seriously you should set it to backup your files every 10 to 15 minutes. Don't feel bad though, it took me three times to learn that.
I can't imagine anyone not saving such an important piece of work online in several places. I would have stores copies of that work on my email, Google drive, one drive, and on Box.. If she loves you, maybe it's her way of saying you suck at writing and she is saving you pain and humiliation of your work being rejected multiple times..
How is this only an almost FML? Don't install anything on your computer! Download and install a recovery program on a usb or so. A deleted file is still on dumpster until it has been overwritten. With something this important I would go to a professional. They can do it cheap. Not long ago my mom messed up and reinstalled Windows. We got everything recovered even though it had been deleted.

recuva is one of many free software products that can recover deleted files.
The longer you wait, the lesser are chances of getting it back. Try it, now. Just remember to save the recovered files on another drive than the source drive - a USB drive will be best.
