Today, I dyed a friend's hair dark brown. She assured me I didn't need gloves as the dye would wash off. It didn't. My shift as a server is in an hour and it looks like I've been working in a tire shop my whole life. Goodbye tips, hello angry customers not wanting me anywhere near their food. FML

All of you who gave me things to say to customers, they were hilarious! Also, I'd like to explain a little bit. The reason she didn't have any gloves for me to wear is because the hair dye she bought didn't come in a box. It was two metal tubes of the stuff in a bag, that was it! I knew better but let her talk me into it anyway. It's definitely my fault, I take full responsibility because I've dyed hair before (mine, mainly) and I know what it can do and if she had told me about it any sooner, I would have brought my own gloves. Oh well, just another funny story to tell. As for work, I went up to the restaurant (I don't live more than 2 miles away) showed my manager my hands and explained the situation. He laughed about and was understanding. Luckily, someone was able to cover my shift, I just needed to clean my hands ASAP! Thank you for all of the suggestions on how to get it off! They're returning to their normal shade of porcelain white (which makes it even more obvious) but I'm definitely going to speed up the process! Sorry for the long comment!

But why wouldn't you wear gloves anyhow? Everybody knows those chemicals are pretty strong, and yes, stain whatever they touch

Serve them food, look them straight in the eye and calmly say, "I have the rot!"

Don't just blame your friend blame yourself too cause everyone knows with hair dye you always wear gloves it's called common sense get some.

In fine dining establishments, you are correct. Based on the severe lack of judgment in this case, I feel I can safely assume that OP doesn't have the brains to be a fine dining server.

The funniest part is that your fingernails will be brown for a lot longer than your skin. Good luck, OP.

Get a magic eraser, Mr. Clean or other, (NOT xtra strength!) wet per instructions

There's gloves in the box for a reason darling. I guess common sense isn't so common!

It probably helped the OP that it is fairly amusing. THAT, or the OP works very hard, and their boss is very easy going as a result. :D

if it's not from a professional store it's still crap even if it's not from a box. Still if you "dyed"(horrible word for coloring) your hair multiple times them you still should have known. Glad you take responsibility cause its still a YDI

Hope you tried the hand sanitizer recommendation. For your nails just put on nail polish and wait 2 or more days. It should come right off with the polish when you remove it.

Your pretentious comment makes you seem really cool.

It's pretty much your own fault, everyone knows that hair dye stains. That's why they come with gloves in the first place.

If you read OPs follow up, you would know there was no box and she also takes full responsibility for it.

It's still common sense to use gloves rather it's from a box or not. She should know since she's done her own hair and the OP already said.

132, if you read ops FML you would see that she wanted to use gloves and even asked for them. Her friend did not have gloves and convinced her to just go on ahead with out them. Of course OP should have used gloves but you make it seem like she went on without gloves without any questions

169 is exactly right, she fully understood the risk of getting dye on herself, but decided to try anyway, can't be upset with/blaming of someone for taking a small chance like that

If it's going to dye her hair of course it will dye your hands too, you should always wear gloves but sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes.
