Today, I discovered that my mother sent a load of job applications to companies on my behalf, because "I can't be trusted to do it myself". I already have a well paying job, which I love. After complaining to my boss about it, he fired me for job-hunting. FML

...are... Are you serious right now? You went to your BOSS not only to complain about something utterly and absolutely not of your superiors business to know, but about another JOB? And you DIDN'T expect to get fired? Are you stupid? What other outcome did you expect? A pat on the back? Your place of work is not a shoulder to cry on. Especially not about petty shit like your mother sending out job applications. Maybe she's right. You ARENT capable of doing things on your own. You absolutely deserved this.

Two words: unfair dismissal. Employers have to have an actual reason to fire employees in the UK. Get the law involved. FYL OP, but next time choose better who you talk to.

He warned his boss about incoming reference calls by falsely applied to positions.

they don't deserve it. who's to say they didn't have a close relationship with their superior. she probably was comfortable enough with them to think she could've

If she put his current employer on there, the other jobs would have likely contacted them for a reference, resulting in him getting fired. So, it was a good idea for him to explain that it wasn't his doing BEFORE that happened. Although, for them to fire him that quickly over something so petty, I don't think that company is a good one to work for.

not in America, unless it was racist or super prejudice.

If they fired you that quickly over that, they aren't a good company to work for. You can do much better.

Sometimes people talk too much and you're an example of one. Like it or not, many employers treat employees like expendable cogs unless they provide superior value. Bad chess move to go tell your boss about a ton of job applications because if a better competitor chooses you then as far as he's concerned, all the money he paid you goes right down the drain. Some people are petty like that and that's why I come full circle to reiterate: sometimes it's better to operate with your mouth shut. Your fault.
