Time waster

Today, I was just about done with my late-night shift at Ralph's. As I was about to put up my "Closed Lane" sign, an elderly women starts putting items on the conveyor belt. The cost was $14.79, and she paid with pennies. It took her ages to count them all, and I wasn't being paid overtime. FML

I know 5 or 10 minutes here and there doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. Up until recently, people at my work didn't get paid to close up, which takes around 15 minutes if all goes well. Over 5 days, that's 1.25 hours - around $25. If you work 50 weeks a year, that's $1250 you're getting screwed out of. People need to learn to stop undervaluing their time. If you're working, you should be paid. It's that simple.

Um... I highly doubt you stood there and waited for her to count to 1,479, or that she counted that long anyways. eh not believable.

I had a customer come in and pay her $130.00 total in $1.00 bills. I wasnt a happy camper so i feel your pain:/

I work 4 krogers and I'm owned by the same company...my sympathies

I can relate. Years ago, I was working for a toy store during Christmas Eve and a man paid $22 in quarters. I am so sorry for OP!

Umm I cashier in a grocery store, and since when does any cashier get paid overtime for doing their job? You had to stay an extra five minutes, you really think that warrants extra pay, on top of the money you're making until you clock out? You're an idiot, ydi.

Thats why you tell them that you are closed. I work a register too and all you have to do is tell them you are closed.

That's 10,479 pennies and that would take at least an hour to count out
