Today, I constantly hear single moms being bashed trashed and judged no matter their situation. I just got dumped again for being one. No one seems to know or care that I’m a single mom, because my daughter’s conception wasn’t what you’d call consensual. FML

It is so unfair that single mums get negatively judged. They are the ones who stay and do the work of both parents. You deserve to be treated better.

Look at dating from the single dude's point of view. How many guys are anxious to enter a relationship that could lead to raising someone else's kid, regardless of the conditions under which the child was conceived? That's not inherently judgy, just setting limits. Were you dumped because you're a single mom or because you didn't disclose that fact from the start? Since "No one seems to know or care that I’m a single mom" I suspect that you didn't tell him until you thought he was committed, but that would be your fault.

The key is expectation, boundaries and a clear understanding. When I met my now-fiancee, I was upfront about having children and being a single father. I also have never expected her to be a load-bearing stepparent; she tags in to watch the kids for short times so I can run errands and helps out here and there with the kids.

why would anyone care about that? no offence but it was your decision to keep the baby… I don’t think you can say “I’m only a single mom because…” as if you are somehow any different than other single mothers. honestly, date men who have kids already. simple.
