Ouch

Today, in my karate dojo, I was being taught how to fall properly. My sensei instructed us not to fall with our hands out because it could sprain our wrists. As I was getting ready to help demonstrate a backwards break fall, I actually fell over. Guess where my hands went. FML

I'm not sure what Op means by " with the hands out" you're instructed to slap the ground with your hands as you fall, it's called a break fall. Sounds like op just fell and sat on her hands. YDI for not listening

Op means hands splayed out to the sides, I guess most people fall like that as if they're trying to catch balance as the fall.

It is instinct to fall with your hands out. Ex: When inline skating was popular, it was important to wear your wrist guard along with your knee pads because if you fell, (which most of us did) :P you wouldn't break your wrist when catching your fall incorrectly.(:

Okay, we'll I understand that, but what I don't understand is when you are taught to fall you actually do have your hands out, you just learn not to try to catch yourself with your wrists. Instead you tuck your neck in so you dont hit your head on the ground and slap the ground as you land, it's called a break fall and works surprisingly well. That's why I said I kind of sounds like she just fell and sat on her hands ( trying to catch herself with her wrists) but if she was doing it properly she would still have her hands out by her side

Unless she meant holding her hands out like airplane cross formation out, then ya, no. I was thinking she just meant by her side. Thanks everyone lol

She is talking because she is right! Im a black belt in karate and this is how we are shown to land a fall

It sounds like you just made a mistake while learning something new. If you sprained your wrists, then FYL, but otherwise just keep practicing!

It's ok op, it is natural instinct to put your hands out when you fall. You'll get the hang of it probably.

lol how'd u write this then ?? with ur feet??

A sprained wrist doesn't mean OP's fingers fell off.

Op didn't say she was injured, simply that she fell in bad form.

I promise you will never make that mistake again!

It's normal. It's an instinct humans simply have. But with enough training you can get over it ^^

Ouch bet that caused a bit of pain

Nice cover story. We all know that you actually strained your wrist while "watching" Anal Intrusion Masters Volume 6. I bought Every1luvsboners that video for his birthday and he says it's his favourite.
