Looking for love in Alderaan places

By not4geeks - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I went out on a first date with a cute guy. Turns out we won't be going on a date again because I didn't know the difference between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." FML

How do you not know the difference? YDI. I'm a girl, and I'd dump you for that. It's proof positive that your interests clash.

1) They have different names. Der. 2) You win for getting a geek. 3) The only excuse you'd have is if you haven't seen the movies or the shows. Then it's not a YDI.

What an ass!! Okay so what you didn't know the difference. Things like that happen. That guy should should simply changed the topic. We can't know everything in the world, maybe it might be too common but we still miss out on those common things in life. My opinion is that he guy is a prick and you are better off not dating him.

wow.. they're reallyyyyyyy different.

#362 - WTF??? Way to not perpetuate the stereotypes of geeks tending to be psychotic and living in the basement of their parent's home while planning their next sexually deviant murder. I'm with everyone else here, not knowing the difference between these two huge pop culture icons has little to do with whether or not you've actually seen them or are a "nerd". It does show an inability to look beyond your little bubble of interest (which probably does include both A Walk to Remember and the O.C) and actually be aware of the world around you. Not knowing what these two are also keeps you from actually getting a number of other movies/shows/songs/commercials/etc. that reference both ST and SW. As a female who isn't really into either, and have never even seen Star Trek, I would have dumped (which is inaccurate seeing as it was a first date) your ass too. It's one thing to not be interested in politics, but if you couldn't tell me who Sarah Palin or Dick Cheney was, it's like your heads in the ground. Difference between Frodo and Harry Potter, can't get a Brokeback Mountain reference, don't understand what the word Brangelina means, etc. This is all stuff that you can't avoid unless not being aware of anything that doesn't directly affect you, thus making you severly self-absorbed. Just sayin.

Wow. No reason to break it off.

Calm down #371. Don't codemn(sp) people who are into stuff that you classify as nerdy or geeky. You're the dumbass for hating that. I happen to love both star wars and star trek. I also happen to be a fairly decent dnd player. I also happen to be the frontman in a punk rock band and enjoy copious amounts of sex. Back to the topic: it was retarded of him to dump you for such a stupid reason. He could have accepted that you weren't into them or he could have introduced you to both sw and st and you could have really liked them. But now it's his loss so move on to someone less thickheaded

Ah man you ggotta know the difference. I'm no geek by any stretch of the imagination, and I know nothing of star trek, but I love star wars (the original trilogy)
