Holiday season

Today, I’m a recovering alcoholic. With the upcoming holiday, I have two choices; I can go over my family’s house who are all heavy drinkers and hope I don’t relapse, or I can stay home by myself and hope the crushing loneliness doesn’t drive me back to the bottle. FML
I agree, your life sucks 490
You deserved it 89

Choice number three, do something completely different: spend the time away and have a mini vacation, spend time with friends, volunteer at a shelter (animal or homeless) or at a children’s hospital, etc. In other words, don’t allow yourself the mental space to become sad or relapse.

Choice #4, reach out to your local AA group (or your countries equivalent, if you haven't already) and see if they're doing a festive get together. You get to enjoy the holiday without risking relapse and you get to make sober friends who understand to continue your journey with. Don't just sit and stew, that's the worst thing you can do for yourself 🫂

Choice number 5. Find people in a similar situation and make your own Thanksgiving. Start new traditions.
