Today, I called my dad at his new wife's house to inform him I was all set to graduate from community college with my associate degree and that we needed to sit down and plan how to pay for the 4 year degree, to which he replied, "All a girl needs is an associate degree." Thanks Dad. FML

Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML

After 30 minutes of me getting more upset, and her getting more frustrated, she directed me to Tinder, a wedding venue website, and the local address for Planned Parenthood. Her actual words were, "There's no shame in being a stay at home dad these days." FML

Today, I called my dad to ask why my university tuition had not been paid. He said that my school was "too expensive" and he "couldn't afford it." He then asked me if I would take in his mail while he was away. He was taking his new wife to Hawaii; apparently it's beautiful this time of year. FML

Today, my father lectured me for dating a man with "no future", even though he's entering a PhD program next year at a top university. Meanwhile, my dad's last relationship was with a 20-year-old hooker who ended up stealing his credit cards. FML

How is any of this indicative of her not taking financial responsibility? I paid for my degree myself, but my parents still sat down with me and helped me figure out what I was doing with loans, etc. Asking someone experienced to help you is one of the smartest and most responsible things you can do.

Why is it kids these days feel that it's their parents' responsibility to pay for college? Are you not an adult now? Oh wait, kids want to be treated like an adult, but don't want to take on the responsibility of actually being an adult. Get a job, get a loan or get a scholarship. Quit mooching off your parents and grow up.
