Keep trying OP! It takes work to get that stamina back!! Do a little farther each day!! It will come! Keep up the good work!
yea our generation is doomed. my arthritic grandmother has more energy than me
reminds me of my grandma. me on the other hand. I would prefer to hover board everywhere. I don't even remember how to walk haha I'm kidding
I traveled in Japan in my early thirties and we were visiting a temple with very steep staircases, so steep that they looked like ladders and I needed both hands and feet to maintain balance and was exhausted when I reached the top. There passes a man in 70ies, maybe older, who climbed the ladder-stairs like some bad ass, straight as an arrow and without pausing for breath, as if he was strolling in the park. Being in good shape is not a matter of age, it's just a matter of practice.
I can run for about 10 minutes but I already get stitches in 3 minutes... I don't know what's wrong with me.

Your grandpa is awesome! A body in motion stays in motion. Make sure to tell him to keep up the good work and start running everyday with him. After a while it will get easier and easier and you'll be in great shape too :)
15 minutes is longer than I lasted the last time I tried going for a run. I didn't even make it to the end of the block before my ACL was like "lol nope."
