A parental beating never hurt anyone permanently. This is an authority challenge that he cannot win. Smack his stupid mouth and don't allow him to leave your house or sulk all day about it. He eats dinner with you and does chores as normal. It's not about his wants it's what he needs. He can't enter life with this attitude. He will never make it.
