Today, I went to my guidance counselor and told her how I'd been fascinated with space since I was 12, had read about the universe and everything, and how I want to be an astrologist when I grow up. She stared at me for a second, before saying, "But you're... stupid." FML

Your counselor probably had a point. If you were interested in space you would want to be an astronomer, not an astrologist.

When I grow up, I wanna drive a train. I can't wait to be a constructor. ...Would you not call me stupid for saying that? (Cookie to anyone who catches the reference :p)

people, does it matter whether or not the OP truly is stupid? the guidance counselor needs to maintain a level of professionalism ... which she did not. at all.

@ #22, its not that simple. A better analogy would be "It would be great to perform eye surgery and save people's vision! I think I'll become an optometrist."

24, actually these days more and more optometrists are transitioning into surgical procedures...

As others have pointed out before, you might be stupid for not knowing that astrology is a BS psuedo-science and astronomy is the study of the stars. But being stupid has never stopped anyone from achieving their dreams. Only HS guidance counselors can do that. Don't listen to your counselor. If they had any semblance of intelligence or ambition, they wouldn't be counselors. Follow your dream. Extreme passion for a subject beats out SAT scores and IQ tests. If you have bad grades, then the road will be harder, but it's achievable.

hahahahahhahahahah WOOOOOOOW. i hope you just made a mistake in writing astrologist on here, and thats not what you actually think its called. she still shouldnt have called you stupid though, that was harsh.

You guys all need to take a chill pill and back off on the wording. So what if the OP flubbed? Maybe he realized later on what he actually meant. Agreeing with the guidance counselor that he's stupid for messing up a simple word is kind of pointless. Everyone makes mistakes. As far as your guidance counselor goes, that is incredibly unprofessional and rude. If she's so intelligent, why is she a guidance counselor and not some college professor at an Ivy League? Don't let her get you down, just try and be more determined to prove her wrong. :)

because some people have different passions and callings in their lives. maybe they enjoy helping others, even if it means being brutally honest. not everyone dreams of being a professor.

Whether you called it the right thing or not, she should not have been so rude. Why does she still have a job? It would have been better to point you in the direction of colleges or military branches where you would work in that field. She could point out classes in your HS that would prepare you to take those college/military courses. She could have reviewed your grades in math and science, things like that. Then, she'd be able to help you find out if that field really was for you.

Whether the poster used the wrong job title or not, no professional in a school setting should EVER call a student stupid. It's unprofessional, rude, and wrong.
