Today, while I was out of the office, I'd left my phone charging inside. My boss informed me that since I am clearly running up her electricity bill, it will be deducted out of my already nearly non existent paycheck. FML

Today, I found out that the only reason my "friend" comes over to my apartment is so that she can charge her phone using my electricity, because she's too cheap to use her own. FML
Today, the power went out at work. As everyone left the building to go home, the owner came in to inform me that, since the phones were on a battery back up, I would be staying to man them. The phones rang 2 times in the 4 hours I sat in the dark by myself. Both times were telemarketers. FML
Today, while working at a chain restaurant, I forgot to charge someone a few dollars for extra toppings on the side. My stingy boss took the time to take that money out of my paycheck. FML
Today, I was running late for work. I was trying to find my car keys, then realized I'd left them in my boyfriend's car. My phone charger was locked in my car, and my phone was dead. I couldn’t get hold of my boss and explain what had happened. I’m fired, aren’t I? FML
Today, my coworker told me when we got to work that she purposely left her phone at home. I then had to suffer 8 hours of listening to her constantly whine like a toddler about how much she missed her phone. FML
Today, my boss threatened to fire me if I didn't stop looking at my phone while working. I work in the back room, and there is no clock in there. I look at my phone to check the time. That way I know how long I have left in that hellhole. FML
Today, my boss fired me for "fooling around" on my phone. I was looking for supplies for a surprise party we are throwing him for his birthday, and I didn't want to do it on my work computer because he has access to our history. Also, this happened during my lunch break. FML
Today, my boss is being so cheap, he'd rather type in the dark, not fix our water heater or replace our cordless phone because he will not get his bonus if he goes over the budget. FML
Today, I had a really good day out just to come home right before the electricity company closed for the day, to find out my payment hadn’t gone through and they'd turned it off. FML
Today, I lost my $100 in cash that I had to use to pay my phone bill. As a result, my phone got cut off and I missed an important call for an apartment that I was looking at. When I went to work, I heard my boss saying how lucky she was to find $100 in cash. FML

If you find out how many watts per hour, you can use electricity calculators. One way I've done it was for school. You can use Microsoft Excel with the correct formula. *hint: every formula starts with a =* Then you can use a calculator to find out how many hours in a year, use the formula. Bada bing!

No, but I know people who charge their phones elsewhere if they pay utilities. A friend of mine would bring his phone to lecture halls and use a plug meant for laptops, even if the phone was never turned "on", just to save a little on electricity.

@27 Actually, my husband does use his personal phone at work, and in exchange, they pay him a little more than they would have to cover the cell bill. Never say never.

I'm not at all sure she can legally dock your pay for that. Fire you, perhaps, if there's something in employee policy about it... Before she comes up with a number, be prepared with some facts - power draw of the charger X time in use X her electric utility rate... I'll bet it comes out to less than a penny. Keep one or two in your pocket to hand her.

A charger uses maybe 5W, and almost 0W when not charging. Assuming it takes 2h to charge the phone, that's 0.01 kWh of energy, which costs about a tenth of a US cent.
