Today, my wife and I drove two hours from our rural town to buy a new sofa. When we got home, it took us an hour to figure out there was no way to fit it through our door. We made the two hour drive back to return it, only to find the store was closed. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Road trip
Today, we drove six hours to get to our holiday cottage only to realise that my girlfriend had forgotten her suitcase. This put her in a bad mood, so she made ME drive six hours back to her flat to get it, then when I got there, I realised HER keys to HER FLAT were still in HER handbag six hours back at the cottage. FML
Panic! At the Costco
Today, I had to drive over an hour away to buy toilet paper. FML
Today, after my husband trusted me to sort out the arrangements for modifying our kitchen and I spent a lot of time finding the perfect top-quality items, they were delivered 1,291 miles away in a town I’ve never heard of. FML
Warehouse blues
Today, I got up early to wait for my new sofa to be delivered. I spent yesterday taking apart and getting rid of my old crappy sofa. At midday, the furniture shop said they'd cancelled my order due to not having enough of that model in stock. Even if I re-order a sofa now, it's 2 weeks until they can deliver. FML
Patience
Today, my wife texted me, saying an expensive piece of furniture had been delivered. I specifically said, "Wait until I get home and we'll put it together." An hour later, she opened it and broke it beyond repair while trying to assemble it herself. FML
Today, I went to the supermarket; it was taking me ages to walk home because of the heavy food bags. Halfway home, I realised I had gone in my car. I had to walk all the way back to get my car. FML
PIVOT!
Today, the couch I ordered finally arrived. It was a long search and a little expensive but worth it for the extra comfort. It is perfect, except for the fact that it doesn't fit thought the staircase of my building. Now it's standing in the hallway because they won't take it back. FML
Always call first
Today, I went to visit my aunt who lives 6 hours away from me. Her car was missing from her driveway, but she's unemployed and barely leaves the house. Turns out, she moved in with her new boyfriend and didn't tell anyone, so I had to drive 6 hours back. FML
Today, my usual 15 minute return trip from the fabric store took almost an hour and a half due to traffic. Once I finally got home, I realized I misunderstood the pattern I'm using and only bought half the fabric I needed. FML
Saved
Today, my dad decided to get his friend to help move our old sofa to save money. Its leg got stuck in the doorway, scratched the entire hallway wall, punched a big hole in it, and the other leg made a big dent in our front door. We live in an apartment complex and now have to to pay for everything to be fixed. FML

A measuring tape would've gone a long way...

Or you could measure your doorway before buying a piece of furniture.

Why on Earth didn't you measure the door and the sofa, just to be sure that you'd get it inside? Especially if you knew you had a 4 hour round trip to make?

I know the feeling. Not in that exact detail, but close enough. Pass it off to a friend, that's what we did.

YDI 1. Did not check store hours. and 2. Did check the dimensions of your house's door, or the couch to make sure.

Poor planning...

Ever heard of a tape measure?

I'm sure it could fit through the door. I moved two couches and really bulky horizontal dresser in through a standard size door. You just need to stand it up and angle it correctly

I don't know many rural areas with garage doors

I also wonder if there's a way they can take it apart and put it back together depending on the kind of couch it is. Or maybe just the feet if there are any, or arm rests?

You are aware that you should measure a space before buying furniture right?

There was literally no other way to get it in? You don't have a sliding door?
