Today, I was helping my cousin plan her backyard wedding. I requested September 19-21 off for visiting and festivities. My asshole of a boss is refusing, because of some proposed Area 51 invasion. I have no idea what he’s talking about, and I’m afraid I might miss the wedding. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that I have to reschedule my upcoming honeymoon because my office will be understaffed that week, due to the boss going on vacation right after my wedding. Oh, yeah, and he's in my bridal party. FML
Big bastard boss
Today, my time off request was rejected, and my boss promptly took the day off himself, claiming he has people coming to work on his house. We work from home. The day in question is my 5-year wedding anniversary. FML
I'm an empath
Today, my boss tried to cancel my leave because he’s “taking a mental health break next week and really needs me in the office.” I’m getting married next week and going on a two-week, non-refundable honeymoon, but he needs a mental health break. I had to get HR involved. Snowflake lazy prick. FML
Today, I asked for time off from work for my wedding and honeymoon. A grand total of three days. My boss made a face like he'd sucked on rancid toes and asked me if I was stupid. Awesome. FML
Living in a romcom
Today, my assistant booked me an important meeting tomorrow, which is also our anniversary. My boss says I can’t miss the meeting or I’ll be sacked, and since I forgot our anniversary last year, my wife swears she’ll divorce me if I miss this year. I have no good options here. FML
Overreach
Today, my manager called me to demand I come in to fix his computer, unpaid of course, since I have no overtime rate, then threatened to fire me when I said, "No chance." I’m 1000 miles away on my honeymoon and he knows this, since he granted my holiday request and congratulated me on the wedding. FML
Incompetence
Today, I had to spend a quite considerable chunk of my Saturday on the phone to my boss explaining that no, it is not reasonable or convenient for him to try and cancel my honeymoon leave, all because he messed up the schedules, and doesn’t want to upset the other girl in the office he fancies like mad. FML
Probably for the best
Today, my boss informed me that I'll have to work all weekend to finish a project that's due on Monday. This wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that my ex-girlfriend is getting married on Saturday, and I was supposed to be in the wedding party. FML
Today, I requested to have the next Sunday off of my job in retail. Not only did my boss say that we're not allowed to ask for weekends off anymore, but I also have to work on another weekend that I requested off. I guess I'm not going to my sister's wedding. FML
Happy Birthday
Today, I heard my fiancé tell his friend that he's working on Sunday. Which is my birthday. The birthday I don't even get a party for because of Covid. My only plan was to be with him and my BFF. He says he didn't think to take the day off, and now there's "probably not enough time to get coverage." He's the manager. FML

Storm area 51 on September 20th!....... You might want to get somebody he trusts to help him realize the whole thing is a joke. Or tell him you need the time off to storm yourself.

I think the boss thinks that he wants the days off to storm Area 51 and that's why he said no.

That's why I make it a rule to say "I will be unavailable x dates" and tell them ahead of time. Don't make it sound like there's any chance that you will come in or be able to come in during that time. Finding someone to switch is good too so you're covered.

Sounds like that’s what OP did. Bosses still have the right to say no, you can’t be gone those dates, take your vacation some other time.

Some jobs, it doesn’t matter. In news, you could be called in from your vacation if it was a big enough story. Even funerals aren’t safe. You know this when you sign up. You just hope it doesn’t happen during your time off.

Don't know about the United States where OP is but in Australia the Boss does NOT have a right to say no unless they have a legitimate reason and the boss going to an Area 51 Raid or not believing OP has a wedding to attend is not a legitimate reason. In fact you don't even have to tell the boss why your taking time off.

Well if there's actually going to be an area 51 invasion that day, you might be thankful...😮

Ask him again, but this time show him the wedding invitation as proof.

Does he want to go, and take you with him, have you cover while he's gone, or is he trying to make you go in his stead? Whatever it is, tell him to **** himself, and go to the wedding.
