Today, I tried taking a shortcut through a nature trail, hoping to save myself some time getting back to my car. I ended up getting lost for nearly 3 hours and getting to work nearly 2 hours late. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, after leaving work at 10 pm, I took a shortcut to the highway. After getting lost, my GPS informed me that the service was unavailable and I should try back in an hour. This occurred moments before I ran out of gas. FML
Short circuit
Today, I took a “shortcut” on my bike to save five minutes and ended up carrying it up three flights of stairs because the path turned into a locked service entrance. FML
Long day
Today, I got the bus to work instead of walking so I could be there faster. However, I accidentally got on the wrong bus which let me off a mile and a half away from my workplace. Then, after another half-hour of trying to walk there, I found that it wasn't even open that day. FML
Lost
Today, I tried to take a shortcut home. I got lost and had to ask a stranger for directions. They pointed to the street sign above me that literally had my street's name on it. FML
I'm coming!
Today, I was late for work so I ran to catch the bus. I made it. Unfortunately, the bus was actually out of service, and I just sprinted to a parked vehicle for no reason. FML
Today, I had to follow a diversion route home due to roadworks. It took me an hour longer than usual to get home. Too bad it turns out that the diversion was only for traffic, not people walking. FML
Let's offroad!
Today, my GPS led me to a "shortcut" that took me through a winding dirt road in the middle of nowhere. My car got stuck in the mud, and the tow truck driver told me I was the third person he's pulled out this week from the same "shortcut." FML
Sorry Sweaty
Today, I got lost on my way to a wedding and yelled at my phone's GPS for giving bad directions. After 20 minutes of rerouting, I realized I’d accidentally set it to “walking mode.” I arrived 45 minutes late and sweaty in a full suit. FML
GPS FML
Today, while hiking, my dad decided we should take the beeline trail down the mountain to save time. When we got to the bottom of the mountain, we discovered we were on the wrong side. We had to hike 13 extra miles to go around the mountain to get back to our car. FML
Wandering soul
Today, I went on a scenic hike to clear my head and ended up lost for two hours. When I finally found my way back, I noticed the trail signs had big, bright arrows. How did I miss those? FML

Try exploring "shortcuts" when you're not pressed for time. YDI.

Don't most people have smartphones nowadays? They're great GPS's.

GPS can tell me what room I'm in at my house, it can't tell you "turn left at the rock" but it can tell you where you are on a map.. What idiots are down voting this?

You're lucky you didn't get fired.

He's lucky he didn't get eaten by something on the way, since it all happened in Australia.

Perhaps OP had no signal? You never know, most wireless company's have pretty spotty coverage in some areas.

He got lost trying to find his car u can't use gps for a car
RedPillSucks 33
you can if you know what street the car was parked on, but if you're using something like Google maps and the trails not on it, you're screwed
False_Stupidity 42
Yes but surely he knew where he had parked his car, therefore assuming that OP 1. has a smart phone and 2. had a usable GPS signal and phone signal then he could have used this to navigate to where he left his car.

You can certainly use a GPS for finding your car. You use a program like location log to mark down the latitude and longitude of where you are parked, where your deer stand is, etc. I have used that method for marking the location of our vehicle when partying, checking out street fairs, and other events. Modern civilian GPS is accurate within feet, if not inches. Certainly accurate enough for finding a vehicle if you arent blind. #21: what you are referring to is aGPS which uses cell towers for triangulation. "traditional" GPS uses satellites which are up in orbit. Depending on your receiver, you dont even need a clear view on sky for it to work. Some of you need to look into how people traveled before cities had nicely marked roads. Maybe try camping once or twice.

Me too, I get lost at the doctors office. "The exit is that way ma'am". Next time you will think twice about supposed 'shortcuts'.
