Today, I told my professor that I'll be missing class next week due to upcoming surgery. I asked if I could take the exam that I'd otherwise miss another day. He said no, and that I'd just have to take a failing grade, then wished me luck with the surgery. FML

Today, I got an email from a professor saying he was going to fail me for missing the allotted absences, which is school policy. I pointed out I was in the hospital for two weeks with a life threatening illness and that he even came to visit me. He told me, "Rules are rules." FML
Today, I have six exams next week, and as of this morning, I also have appendicitis. FML
Today, I left my grandmother's burial to take a midterm. Earlier I e-mailed the professor to ask permission to take it later, and she flat out said "no." I left my grieving family, and traveled hours back to school. I went to class, only to discover that the prof decided to move the exam date. FML
Today, I walked into an exam after having stayed up 20 straight hours studying. The professor looked at me and muttered, "Don't bother, I'm failing you either way." FML
Today, I received an email from my professor informing me that if I missed another class, I'd be dropped from the course. I have field experience to complete tomorrow as part of my major. I emailed her two weeks ago to let her know, and we're excused by the dean. She doesn't care. FML
Today, I told one of my teachers I have to attend a family member's funeral on a day she's passing a test. She straight up asked if I could reschedule it, and if not if I could just give it a miss. FML
Today, I tried to explain to my professor why I’d missed two classes. Even with a doctor’s note explaining my very serious health issues, she rolled her eyes and huffed, "Maybe if you’re ‘oh so sick,’ you should just drop out!” Gee, sorry for trying to improve my life through adversity. FML
Today, I was supposed to take a test, but the professor didn't have it ready because he went to a concert last night. I sold my own tickets to that very concert in order to study for the test. FML
Today, I had an emergency appendectomy, so I texted my boss to let him know about the situation. He replied that it'd be good for my continued employment prospects if I came into work tomorrow. FML
Today, I went in to take my College Placement tests. I'd spent all week ignoring actual homework to study for these tests. When I got there, the responsible told me that the tests were last week. FML

If my school (York University) can give a student accommodation meaning he doesn't have to work with female students then your school can definitely give you accommodation for surgery.

Actually it was a pretty big story in Toronto, I don't personally know the guy, also why the **** was I downvoted? My comment was totally legitimate. OP should get accommodation for a surgery, and I was demonstrating my point with a stupid accommodation that someone at my school received.

teachers get so much bull on a regular for why exams/tests should be moved so student x can procrastinate more. I know at least a couple that in the happiest manner look u in the eye and say "if it's important enough, your grade won't matter". i kind of have to agree with that thought a little, simply because they have no way of knowing if what u say is really true. It really sucks though op.

but if op has surgery she obviously needs to have it. it's not like she said she had surgery and really didn't just to buy time for the test. the teacher should be understanding and tell op that as long as they have a doctors note that they can work on taking the test when op is able to come back to school but if not Op will get a failing grade.

Depending on the type of surgery, a funeral may be the same, an optional event. I'd like to think the professor would have some compassion if it were a life saving surgery and tend to think the OP is having something light done.

I'm not sure about the policies at your university, but here, if you can bring in medical certification to prove your claim, the university has no choice to accommodate you. I recommend you speak to the dean to see what you can do.

This is like the equivalent of the chorus of "divorce him/her!!!!" comments on FMLs about husbands or wives. It's a little harsh, don't you think? The professor doesn't deserve to lose his job. He deserves a lesson in common courtesy toward his students, but getting him fired is a bit much.
