Today, I left the windows open because I live in Florida without air conditioning because the asshole landlord won't fix it. There was nice cool air from the rain. I've killed about 100 flying ants that have made their way inside. Now I have a hot house with closed windows and flying ants. FML

Today, I put my AC in my room again in preparation for summer. However, I forgot that my cat messed up the accordion while climbing the window like an idiot, so it no longer closes properly. So there is now an opening in the window that I can't do anything about. Hello, insects. FML
Today, I was going to set up my air conditioner in the window. As I opened up the window, I must have disturbed a wasp nest, because a dozen wasps flew in and several of them stung me. The rest are now somewhere in my house with my terrified girlfriend. FML
Today, I hate having bugs in the house so I covered all doors and windows in fly screen. This prevents 80% of the bugs from finding their way inside, and 100% of those from finding their way back out. FML
Today, my AC stopped working. It's currently 3:08AM and I have 2 fans running, a cold washcloth on my neck, and a window open. It's still hot as hell. Thanks, Florida. FML
Today, as I have my entire life, I live in the south. However, our AC decided to break and now it's 91 degrees inside the house, even with fans on and the windows open. FML
Today, I opened a window that had been shut for a couple of months. As soon as I did, dozens of tiny baby spiders blew in with the breeze, and dispersed in my kitchen. FML
Today, I was driving home, it was 80 degrees out. Making a rare attempt to be eco-friendly, I turned off the A/C and lowered the windows. A bee then flew in through the window, hit my cheek, and stung me. That's what I get for attempting to be eco-friendly. FML
Today, I'm sitting in a disgustingly hot office with all the windows thrown open. There is no fan, and the owner won't let us use the air conditioner. The smell of mold permeates the room from the ceiling, giving me headaches by the end of the day. The owner refuses to get someone in to clean it. I can't quit. FML
Today, I turned on my A/C for the first time in a couple of months. A family of ginormous cockroaches climbed out of the air vent and a few clumps of dead cockroaches fell to the ground. FML
Today, I saw a moth trapped in a spider web. Feeling gracious, I gently freed it, and then took it to the window to let it out. When I opened the window to set him free, my $300 air conditioner fell two stories and smashed on the sidewalk. The moth flew away. FML

Invest in a window screen. Just because the landowner won't improve your quality of living doesn't mean you're bound to his whims :)

To reduce the temperature inside our room, Me and my roommate cover the windows with a wet bedsheet folded twice and a table fan infront of it. It works fine.

I agree with #10, friends of mine have been in similar situations to this and if you withhold the rent until they fix the problem it will get done.

You can always put more clothes on if it's cold, but you can't take enough off if it's hot!

Not sure if it works as well with flying ants, but fire, sugar, carpenter, and 'crazy' ants all hate the smell of white vinegar. It erases the pheromone trails they leave to navigate, too, so they literally get lost and die. It also helps deodorize the house. Fill a spray bottle with the stuff- diluted works too, though you have to either spray heavier or more often- and just spray everything with it. If nothing else, it should hopefully keep them at bay while you get the leverage to make your landlord repair the AC and call a bug infestation specialist. Also, the wet sheet over the window is a good idea. If you secure it on the top and bottom you can use it to screen out bugs, smoke and even pollen if the cloth you use is fine enough.

Fix it yourself, submit the bill to your landlord and subtract it from your rent.

I know in Nevada that if your landlord doesn't provide such basic services or otherwise makes the place unliveable, you aren't liable for rent until it's fixed. perhaps Florida has something similar?
