Today, I finished a ballet class with a group of seven-and-unders. Afterwards, a new student's mother came up to me and thanked me, saying she was glad that her daughter had a "role model with a, ahem, fuller figure" and "not to worry about my weight." I have never thought I was fat before. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my mum came to my ballet class. She spent the whole lesson sitting at the back yelling at me to, "Stop sticking your butt out!" My ballet instructor had to ask her several times to pipe down. FML
Today, a friend of mine commented that I "have a lot of confidence for a fat girl". Ummm... thanks? FML
Today, at school, one of my students confidently told me that I "wasn't hiding my baby bump very well anymore." I'm not pregnant. Just fat, apparently. FML
Today, my 6-year-old daughter walked into the bathroom where I was grumbling about my weight. Seeing how upset I was, she took my hand and said, "Mom, you're not fat. You just look fat." FML
Nice
Today, I was watching my 7 year-old daughter and her friend jump on our trampoline. I was really impressed by all the flips they were doing, and I told her, "Hey! I can't even do that." To that her friend replied, "Of course you can't. You're fat!" FML
Classic Mom moment
Today, I went to my parents' house. I recently lost about 30 lbs. My mom hugged me and said, "Aww, you're not my chubby baby girl anymore." She then said she wished I were still fat because she missed it. She's the reason I lost the weight; she used to tease and taunt me. Thanks Mom. FML
You got this
Today, due to family, job, health, and pregnancy issues, I didn't dance in the past decade, but recently started doing my favourite classical dance again. In this decade, I've more than tripled in weight and can't recognise myself in the mirror or in videos. I'm still in a healthy BMI but feel so fat. FML
Today, my son was looking through old photos and showed me a picture of myself and asked who it was. When I told him it was me, he responded by saying "But mommy, the lady in the picture is not fat!" FML
Supportive
Today, I took the kids to the pool. I'm short and 20lbs overweight but they talked me into it and I put on a swimsuit for the first time in 10 years. As soon as we got there, a girl my height but a good 150lbs heavier said, "It's so nice to see another big girl in a two-piece!" FML
Audience participation not required
Today, I was at the local theatre watching "The Nutcracker" ballet with my mother. When the prince made his appearance in his tights my mother leans over to me and says, "Those are some well defined butt cheeks!" loud enough for everyone around us to hear. FML

You know, from a ballet standpoint, a lot of the woman are sticks. Maybe you just have a curvy figure, and she's happy her daughter can look up to someone with curvy hips instead of a coat hanger.

If you don't think you're fat then don't worry.

You're lucky. I'm a size zero.

what a bitch. dancer moms are like the more evil, more judgemental version of soccer moms. fyl. but don't even listen to her, because her life now revolves around making sure her brats have a strict diet similar to that of an anorexic, toting them around in her expensive SUV, and all the while living vicariously through them because she's in denial of the fact that she's on the brink of middle age.

Sadly, to dance ballet at the highest professional level, you have to be unnaturally thin. A woman who has a normal body (not even "curvy") would look like a horse on stage in a ballet. A ballerina who even appears to have a womanly shape onstage looks like a skeleton in real life. The men who look muscular and bulky onstage are scrawny in real life. Go ahead and enjoy ballet for the artistry, the exercise, the discipline, etc., but your chance to succeed at the highest level has already been determined genetically.

I guess a better way to put it is this: In the real world, I am of median height. In the NBA, I'd be a midget. Likewise, a woman with a perfectly lovely body in the real world would look like a cow in a ballet.

Like many people have stated dancers (and more specifically ballerinas) have bad reputations for being unhealthily thin. She wasn't calling you fat she was happy that her daughter's teacher had a body and wouldn't give her unreal expectations about her body.

I think it might be indeed that yeah, considering how other ballerines are overly thin. I was thinking the mom thought she was fat, but considering how all ballerinas are crazy underweight, perhaps it's just that the teacher looks more normal. :)

You're not fat, you have a dancer's body! Strong muscles to support yourself through all those difficult moves.
