Today, I almost got our office burned down by plugging the wrong charger into a laptop cooling fan. Tried to hide the incident and kept it casual but the smoke detector led it to my area and everyone knew I was the culprit. I'm a new hire too. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Technically…
Today, my boss told me to not burn the place down while she was outside. When she came back inside, I accidentally started a fire. FML
Today, I found out that my coworker shared a laugh with the boss about setting the office desk on fire (which he actually did), while ten minutes later I was threatened with being fired because I made paper snowflakes and hung a few of them next to the computer. FML
Today, I'm supposed to start my new job as a Crime Scene Tech. Instead, I managed to electrocute myself with my hairdryer. I'll now have to attempt to explain to them that I really am qualified to safely operate an electrostatic lifting device, and other expensive equipment. FML
What's that smell?
Today, my apartment smelled like something was burning, so I checked the oven, toaster, outlets, and even the hallway. After an hour, I discovered the smell was coming from the candle I had forgotten I'd lit in the bathroom. I had spent an hour investigating a fire that wasn't happening. FML
Today, my phone charger caught fire. I was thankful to be there to witness it. I was not thankful for having been holding it while this happened, as my shirt caught on fire. FML
Talking Heads song playing?
Today, I almost burned the house down while changing a lightbulb. FML
Easy mistake
Today, I accidentally left the store with a bag full of groceries without paying. I realized this halfway to my car when an employee chased me down, thinking I was a thief. Turns out, I had spaced out and walked out during a fire alarm drill. FML
Today, my kitchen nearly burned down because the fire alarm didn't detect the plumes of smoke wafting through the kitchen. This is the same alarm that wails when I use the toaster. FML
Today, the office tough guy learned how to use the fire extinguisher. On me. I wasn't on fire. FML
Today, I was carrying a stack of paperwork at work, when my pen rolled off and onto the floor. As soon as I bent down to pick it up, a nearby co-worker, who's always hated me, accused me of putting on a show and sexually harassing him. He actually followed up by reporting me to HR. FML

Owning up to your mistakes makes a better impression than hiding them.

Just admit to your mistake and apologize. Everyone makes mistakes and ones people own up too can be forgiven

So true! When I was at my old job, I hated when new hires tried to hide their mistakes and even try to blame it on someone or something else. People will respect you more if you take responsibility for your actions! Most of the time, people can tell when you're bullshitting or hiding something anyway. You won't actually get away with it, people will just call you an idiot behind your back.

It's not your fault completely. You're new and you're starting to know the place. Best thing to do is admit your mistake and move on.

Like the comments above me, you should've just owned up to it.

Yeah, not a smart move on your part. Should have just owned up to your mistake.

Why aren't there more YDI's on this post?
soulreaper12296 28
Because they don't think it's a YDI......just because you do doesn't everyone else does/should.

I agree with you #9. #12 I understand where you're coming from. This would be YLS if it was the simple fact that mistakes happen. However, the YDI comes in when you try to hide your mistakes, especially one that could put yourself and others in danger.

They should train you, since the scenario you describe makes no logical sense.
